Hi! For my case, I have never purchased Logic Pro. Now if i go to the app store it will just decline my effort to purchase it. I have not found anyway to purchase a previous version yet or even dowload a previous version safely, in order to buy the license later. Any help would be appreciated. It's my understanding that Apple will allow you to download the most compatible LP for your computer. One thing you can do is to downgrade to a different OS if possible unless you have an older computer with an old OS. The other thing you could do is create a partition in your computer or on another drive with an earlier OS and try to download it from there.

I think you should be fine if you only want it for garageband. But I would recomend 2015s, you can find them used for the same price of 2011s.

I owned a 2011 Mac mini used as a server and an basic iMac 2012 up until 2019 and they worked absolutely fine using the then current versions of GarageBand and Logic Pro, it’s the SPECS u want to check for like the ram and processor cuz they’re not all created equally 😅

So to be clear: this only works for a *re-install* of Logic Pro X. If you didn't have this previously installed on your machine and tied to your account, you don't have access to the installer.

I'm not sure, to be honest. I think you might be right, I know for sure that Apple allows you to download the latest version that fit the best to the OS you are using(in case that is different from Monterey). At the same time, Apple always has the previous versions saved somewhere in the cloud.

This is my issue. I am trying to get logic for the first time. I have the same Catalina 10.15.7 & the only option I get when trying to get logic is to buy it, which I want to do, but I need MacOS version 12.3 or later. I just bought this iMac & there is nothing wrong with it at all. It seems crazy they make it pretty much impossible to get older versions for your older computer as soon as the new software & computers come out to make you have to keep buying more.

But my problem is:My logic problem is the following: I taught and used the logic and final cut programs with the school's authorization and license. As I retire, I wanted to buy Logic Pro, but the Apple Store won't let me download it because the new version is incompatible with Big Sur on my iMac Retina 27" 5K dated 2014. Apple writes to me that I have to change my iMac, but I've finished updating it , from August 2023 with 1 tera mse ssd, 2 tera ssd as external backup 32gb ddr3 ram. It is very fast, opening in 20", complex programs in 6". But Apple reiterates that it is the motherboard and the processor that are not compatible So I replied that I want to buy an old version of Logic compatible with my iMac and hardware installed. The answer from Apple is not possible. I have never installed school Logic on my iMac because I worked with the school computers, as well as for Final Cut and other programs. Being retired I can no longer buy machines like my imac, it would cost over 3,000 euros. So I've been looking for a solution for months, even buying an old version of logic second hand. Hello, it’s hard to tell based on Apple response, this tutorial might work for some people or might not for others. It’s my understanding that Apple will allow you to download the latest compatible version of logic depending on the OS of your computer. In my tutorial I’m using Catalina which is a previous version of Big Sur. I know for a fact that the older logic version are saved in Apple clouds just like OSs. But then thinking about it it’s everyone in Apple trained to know everything, I have my doubts I will try again and ask to a diferente associate or maybe even go to the Apple Store in person and ask people there or show this video. It’s like asking for a second opinion.

I also could not afford to buy a new computer so I got it on credit. This way I pay monthly rather than the big amount. My computer to run Logic Pro X cost about £1500. No need to get the most powerful computer if it is only for music production. For all other stuff I use Windows and Linux computers.

I apologizes for the late respond. I'm not sure to be honest, usually it depends what version of OS you have in your computer. Based on that Apple will download the best compatible for your computer. Which COULD MEAN that you have to downgrade your OS to be able to download Version 8 or 9. Updates only shows updates of App, you have installed on the computer, already. I had to do a clean install. There is almost nothing on the computer, except Catalina. When I click on Updates, it shows nothing. Is there a way to get Logic Pro X, which I have bought?

Hello, I'm not 100% sure, this video shows that I bought it in the past which is why is showing on my account in the left bottom corner of the App Store. However, if you pay attention to the message it says "This version is not compatible with your computer however you can download the best compatible version." This makes me think that you can purchase Logic ProX, after your purchase go into your account, and follow the steps of this video and I think you should get the same message I get when trying to download the software. That's my logic, but I'm not 100%. Think about it.

thanks this works for me in mojave 2024, i downgrade my macboock air 2018 because all the news mac os versions are so LAGGY!!! and get slow drastically the performance of my mac then I install the factory operative system and works great! Even if you haven't purchased it before. Mac will allow you to download the latest compatible version of Logic Pro with your current OS. Maybe what you need to do, is a downgrade to the OS that will allow you to download the version that you are looking for.

That doesn't seem to work if you have an older version installed. It just has open where the cloud is. I have 10.4.8 and 10.5 is the latest I can use and I can't get that.

Maybe try uninstalling it and then trying to download the latest compatible version. Before doing this, I'd recommend cloning your current system state with something like Carbon Copy Cloner, just in case it doesn't work. Best of luck!

I own a 2012 MBP running Catalina latest Version. I never owned Logic. My idea is to log in on my brothers much newer MBP and purchase the latest Logic. Does anyone knew if i can downlod the last compatible version on my 2012 MBP after purchasing it on the newer Mac?

That would proabbaly work. I think it's ridiculous that you would have another account to purchase an app from Apple

That's how it works. Apple will allow you to download the best compatible version of Logic Pro for your computer.

If you purchase logic, it should appear. if not try to download it from the apple store.

I would say yes, but I'll try to buy a newer one when possible. I do have a 2015 and still works great with a logic pro and ProTools. All you got to do is to make sure you have the most ram possible and storage(500 GB) you can because you can still download and save libraries in an external HD.

Depending on which computer you acquire you will be limited to using the software as the most updated one will require newer computers. Hey at the end of the day is all about creativity.
