I dont get the calulations, first you needed 5cm from the side and then you took 3 and from middle 4?

She needed to remove 5cm from each side and since the fabric is folded it =10cm per side so 20cm total. She took 3cm from each side and, again, since fabric is folded, that’s 6cm from each side. 20-12cm =8cm. She took a folded 4cm (8cm flat) to remove the remaining bulk.
