No, the back of the pants is all crooked. The belt line is now V-shaped. There are wrinkles on your cheeks. The bottom seam of the belt loop should be seamed under the belt piece of fabric, and the top seam of belt loop should be seamed from the inside.

So glad to know how to do this as I bought several very nice pairs of pants just over a year ago in a sale as they were larger than what most people would buy (one convenient part of being bigger is it's often unsold stock and then gets discounted) unfortunately for the pants but fortunately for me, I've lost a lot of weight s ince then and 4" around my hips so none of them fit, but they do now! Nice video to follow. I sometimes stitch in the ditch down the center under the belt loop location to tack the waistband back down. It's invisible with matching thread and even if it isn't perfect stitching or thread, the belt loop will hide it after it is reattached. I also attach 1 end of the belt loop by hand from underneath so the stitches are hidden and matching the other loops.

@iss85043 жыл бұрын

@edwink14673 жыл бұрын
That seems a bit much. A 38 to 30 would give you 8 inches of material bunched up on top of each other in the back. You will also need to take in the thigh and leg areas or else you will have a fitted waist and awkwardly huge pants. This is going to cost you quite a lot of money, so unless those costed several hundred dollars a pair, I wouldn’t bother.

Do you recommend letting the waist and seat out on a pair of pants or go up a size and take in? Thanks.
@robertmilo52032 жыл бұрын
My gut feeling is taking in a larger pair of trousers by one size is easier and less risky. But I just bought a bunch of vintage tailor made trousers from a thrift shop all apparently made by the same tailor yet with different wait sizes. One pair was much too small for me but they were cheap so I bought them anyway. I just expanded them to the *maximum* that the seam allowance would allow, and that worked. They are snug, but they fit. I feared a big change would throw off the lay of the trouser but they seem fine. I wondered if the old crease or stitch line would show on the expanded seat, but they all steamed out and you can't see them. This was a thick high quality Marzotto wool fabric. Other fabrics might vary. I had a different vintage pair, also bought cheap, and I slimmed them once but did not want to go down too many sizes... but it wasn't enough so I slimmed them again. I should have gone in tight in the first place. I thought it would be too slim and throw off the lay across the seat but it worked fine. I had the most trouble with the belt loops as the fabric was thick. I first machine sewed them but the stitch didn't hold and when I put on my belt the top of the loop popped off (admittedly that was my first ever trouser alteration). When I re-did those trousers, using the sewing machine I hand cranked all the stitches to get the loop back on. I had also tried hand stitching but that was way too hard.

Not being critical, your waistband still got off and something I struggle with. I am basically self taught and since doing my own, spend more time then a tailor. I pin baste, then thread baste, then sew the seam, even then sometimes gets off. Also, I usually adjust most of the hem to adjust for my flat bum. Appreciate knowing can take in way too big. Inherited a nice pair of Summer wool slacks that need to come in about four inches. Looking at how that affects pocket spacing, comes out even so think be fine. Or is that too much to take in even if adjusting the whole seam?
@AspiringGent5 жыл бұрын
Adriel Rowley your fine and to get it perfect really only takes time redoing but for this video it’s not really necessary because It’s scrap pants and I’m just showing the method behind it. As far as your wool pants I’ve taken pants in that much but you will have a significantly smaller gap between the pockets. It comes down to preference and I’d advise against it. For the reason that if they are that big on you, changes are you’ll have a lot of other work to do to make them fit.
@adrielrowley5 жыл бұрын
@@AspiringGent, appreciate the reply and thanks for the help. Exactly my point in not always perfect. And do understand a demonstration. As I said, already considered pocket spacing. Just be a pair to knock about in and so doesn't have to be correct proportions, though see nothing wrong with pockets being centered. Plus, not going to concern myself over the drape, back or front. No other changes needed, both Opa and I were the same sizings until he put on weight.
