@@stylesporchbyroniz7566 yes it’s to avoid zip bulge. Taking in the 1 inch would help you create a curve like your back.

Is it compulsory to take the front and back measurements separately? What if I took the front length and forgot to take the back length to get the bust dart, how then do I go about it?

Yes it is compulsory especially if you want to get a perfect fit. People’s measurements vary a lot so I wouldn’t even advice guessing.
