So this is a triple thumbs up. This was SO helpful. I knew I could pump out the ancient gas in my tank with the fuel pump but I couldn't remember which pins in the diagnostic block to jump. I looked in my Haynes manual...... Nada. Went and looked around on the Miata forum I'm a member of and .........Nada. Found your video and BANG! Job done, Old stinky gas gone, new engineered fuel in and engine running sweetly. Thanks so much, guys. I'm sure, if I'd thrashed around for a couple of DAYS on line I would have found it eventually ......somewhere......., but your vid bailed me out in minutes. So appreciative!

I will try this on my '94. It sat for 2 years and has more water than gas in the tank. Thank you! Edit: Done. Took all of 20 minutes. I had enough spare hose in the toolbox. Brilliant solution. Now I need to get a jug of premium and get her running again.

Interesting. My '99 sat for 2 years and I was still able to crank and run the car from 75% all the way down to like 25%. I just refuel it no issues.

@@michaelchu1602 After using this method to drain the tank, I discovered that my '94 has a drain bolt in the bottom of the tank. 🤣 Ethanol had destroyed the soft components in my fuel pump and gummed up my injectors. All good now. 230K and counting.

I greatly prefer this method for simple tank drains. CAUTION!, this risks fouling the fuel filter if your tank is gunky! Or compacting the fuel pump filter sock with more debris than will 'self-clean' otherwise. Removing the drain plug can be messy, but starts draining water and other liquid contamination first. A friend or two to rock the car before and during the drain may remove more solid debris than a simple plug drain. The advantage of pulling the fuel pump access plate/fuel pump/fuel gauge, is to visually inspect the pump filter sock and tank, not always important, but specially a Miata new to you, a possibly vital check.

Holy s*** this is awesome. I got a free project car I need to empty my 1990s tank today. I'm going to try this out you probably save me a lot of time and this method looks easy I like it a lot.

Cool, I wasn't sure if you could still bridge the old obd1 with an aftermarket ecu, but clearly so since you're turbo'd

Thanks! Worked great and was quite easy (aside from dealing with the line connectors). I think the hose size you want is 5/16" instead of 5/8", but otherwise great video.

Good shit, having p0300 codes after a turbo install that took 2 months so im suspecting it to be the fuel itself. If not then ive got bigger problems.

Does this skip the injector? Trying to drain out a rusted fuel tank. Planning to treated with oxalis acid and baking soda.

Thanks. Trying to figure some way to treat rust in my tank without removing it.
@johnl20284 жыл бұрын
You need to swap that tank or pull it and clean it out. You shouldn’t be running that stuff through your lines if it’s rusty. Also you would easily starve your fuel pump by doing this I think you should add that to this video. Don’t leave the pump jumped while no gas is in the tank

Why do you move so fast? whats the point of teaching anything if you go thru it like a world renound guitar shredder? The entire tube connection to the fuel line was, drain to a fuel container was over in 8 seconds. Not only that, it gets blocked by an image immediately so I have no idea where your at or how you did it. If we were well practiced mechanics we wouldn't need your video. Blink and you'll miss the fuel container for sure, it was given less than one second. I know it's not really hard but maybe you could spare 3 or 4 seconds? Honestly, 10 seconds is probably fast but adequate. Just to be safe and make sure I don't pull the wrong line or break something I guess I'll have to find a video that's not in such a pedal to the metal hurry.

Well this is the 1st complaint in 18k views.... KZbin has this feature called the pause button which you can use anytime you want to stop something and get a better view. On mobile you can even pinch zoom if needed, or you can adjust the payback speed if you need it a little slower... This is a pretty straightforward process, hopefully you'll find a video that can help you since this one is just too fast for you....must be because of the turbo that I move so fast.

@@joeldufkis following your line of rea soning, culminates in the solutions brought by a service, one of which is called google images, offered without the cumbersome and frusterating necessity of working against your turbo tendencies. Although condescension and mocking of viewer input is typically at odds with increasing viewership, i got to admire your tenacity in sticking to your approach. Maybe you can improve on it by replacing an engine in less than 10 seconds. I mean, just take out the old one and put the new on where the old was. And make sure you disconnect and reconect all the hoses, and other connections. At some point youtube vidz become a time consuming disraction. The wise reaction actually, is to consider how many viewers you might have lost who never offered you the courtesy of a reason for why they rejected subscribing to your channel. Maybe they figured that you would just reply defensively from an insecure disposition. One typically does not defend what is secure. But in so doing, did you notice that you failed to answer the initial question ? Busy scrambling those jets. Defense wins championships, so they say. Thanks for the entertainment Joel. Best of luck.
