A more detailed, realistic map would be excellent, especially as a hand-out. Players need to know how far different features are, so they can plan appropriately. For example, if they are at an outlying farm and want to get back to the inn before it closes for the night, they need to know approximately how long that will take. This also helps groups minimize risk of outdoor encounters if they are not interested in them.

Depends on what I’m making! If it’s going to be printed I work at the size, 300 dpi or higher.
