Try to see it as a whole piece, add guide lines first and pick shapes , try to see what the shape of the eyes is ,for ex.

Great video, although some parts are time lapsed, it is a great tutorial. Good explaining of technics. The gauche gives a great effect, I am totally goning to try this, on bleu paper is indeed a good idea.

I think the way you time lapsed the fish tale was perfect because I could still see the way it took shape. Time lapses are good for that reason

You can usually get them at an art supply store. I know I got mine at a Michaels, but I don't know if you're from a different country or not. You can also order them online, but you probably can't get a black Prismacolor on its own.

You know what- I discovered Mark a looong time ago back when comcast was still affordable. Found him on OnDemand. I have to say I still love Mark. My artistic abilities have become much better not necessary because of his tutorials but because he gives me hope. I'm so thrilled you did a Mermaid video, I love drawing them. I guess I was hoping for more of a focus on the tail... Things like, how long to make it before it's just... too long and just how curvy it can be before it's too much. I guess I was thinking more guideline oriented. Perhaps next time? :)

This was a great video, I'm so glad I found it. I do a lot of sewing and embroidery, and my daughter has been wanting me to embroider her a picture for her room. She's really into mermaids right now so I'm going to embroider an underwater scene with a mermaid. However, I have to draw the picture before I can stitch it and I've never tried to draw a mermaid before, your video was so helpful. Thank you very much.

Hey, you should do a "hundred hands" video like you did with eyes. I have trouble with drawing hands, and being able to see so many different angles and variations would really help.
