Beautiful! I would like to give some advice for beginners. I wish someone told me these things when I started. That would have been less frustrating 🫣😬 Maybe a good an idea to mention that it would be good to lay something under your hand when you use graphite. FC Matt doesn’t smudge that much, but normal graphite does. It would be such a shame when someone is trying very hard and the drawing is completely smudged. A putty-eraser isn’t very helpful for beginners. Yes, you can knead it, but it also very soft. For those tiny details on Santa a pencil-eraser (Koh-I-Noor is excellent) is way easier te handle and experience success. A tissue is fantastic to use to make it very smooth. Keep in mind that your graphite becomes a bit lighter after using a tissue. For a base layer a tissue is great. All the next layers…use a brush. Concealer brushes and…brushes with real goat hair work amazing. Keep in mind that most brushes ‘push’ the graphite. Brushes with animal hair partially absorb graphite. In that way you can divide the graphite far more better with the least amount of effort. Is a layer too dark? Use the tissue again.

Gemma which brand of pencils do you use particularly when you draw with colour? I am part way through drawing a ‘Robin’ using Faber Castel’s graphite pencils and I want to highlight the breast with colour. I am curious which brand would be best I wouldn’t want to ruin my picture. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I am a new follower to your channel and you’ve inspired me to draw again. Keep up the great content you are an excellent artist!
