I had no idea!! I was brought to tears on this one! OH, OH, OH! How absolutely frightening! There are no words to describe the feeling I got in my stomach. Thank you for sharing and giving others this knowledge. We all need to hear this and become more aware of what is going on around us. I am 75 yrs, (almost 76, in September), and had no idea. I am sick. OH! I love your drawings, your art. I am in awe of ALL of your drawings. OMG. I just cannot say enough. I feel like a failure now. I love to sketch animals, especially horses, and cannot, well, just grab something out of my imagination, to draw. I can't get the emotions that I'm looking for. Of course, I have never had lessons in any kind of art class either. Too expensive. However, I really do love your art and how you capture the emotions of the beautiful animals and also, how you capture the audience and their emotions, I'm sure (as you did mine). Do you give out your web site ever? Will you ever give lessons on line? WOW, that would be so AWSOME.

Jo, you have opened my eyes & made me a believer. I love animals. I wasn't aware of the complete wholesale torture of our beloved creatures. It pains me to hear about it. I will most certainly do my part in educating myself & the people around me. Then go & do something about it! Your fantastic art goes a long way in educating our world.

What a remarkable woman - I am simply gobsmacked at her talent. And I commend the "Colour in your Life program" - tightly scripted in such a gentle conversation - and extremely well produced. . . . my admiration to all of you. . . . Philip Wollen.

Thank you Jo, was an inspirational show. Just loved what you are all about and your art is amazing. Makes you think hard and fast about what those that live on this planet are doing to it., the world is a cruel place and the worst offenders are those that believe they are the most intelligent. in fact ' We ' are the most dangerous and will eventually distroy this planet we live on, for ourselves and for those animals left to inherit it if there are any . What a legacy we leave our children .x

Philip Wollen launched Jo Frederiks' exhibition last year and he said that one day we would see her greatness in the same light as we see famous Australian artists like Charles Blackman, Arthur Boyd, William Dobell, Leonard French, Sidney Nolan, Margaret Olley, John Olsen, Arthur Streeton, and Brett Whiteley.

Patricia, you have given me something to think about with the idea of vegan art supplies. I'm new to the art world & am ignorant about much of what you mentioned. Though I am aware of Kolinsky tail fur being used in brushes. Something is currently being done about the Kolinsky brushes now in the US. I don't know how far spread it is, but it's almost impossible to get Kolinsky brushes here now, though I just got some from France. Again, I hadn't given it a thought when ordering these brushes. I will thank the animals who gave so dearly to make them. I do wonder what we will be using in the near future to replace them.

Just to touch on a point mentioned at 4:30 - it is not enough to simply flip an image you have taken off the 'net to get around copyright laws. The image is still the same image. Now, as an artist myself, using an image for "reference" has a different implication so I know what you are saying, but let's make that distinction clear. And for anyone who feels the need I will not be discussing this here and have this turn into yet another huge flame war about copyright laws. Look it up yourself.

We raised cattle and would not put the hormones or whatever they wanted us to and lost so much money it took us years. We never raised cattle again! We had Champion stud Domino to sell to keep us going.

I know Graeme Stevenson, who made the film, is her partner - but WTF compelled you to mention the fact that Jo is a "really attractive woman as well", Graeme? What does that have to do with her art and her veganism? I ask because I am as opposed to treating women as ornaments as I am eating animals.
@patrickdooley140611 жыл бұрын
Just where does this woman think her paints, canvas and brushes come from? Animals! What a fool! I have several friends who are cattlemen and dairy farmers....they do so much more for the world than this poor soul.
