I started out tracing. Then eventually I started to make things from imagination. And I can say that the muscle memory from the trace practice really helps to ground an understanding of how things fall in line... A lot of people believe it's cheating... And I think it's only cheating if you traced something and tell people you didn't trace it and try to pass it up as something you made straight from imagination. But tracing purely for practice is a great thing to build proper technique.

Keep this in mind that you have to be able to at least draw a proper body anatomy. If you're missing your proportion then these tips might not works.. So if you're new at drawing and happens to be looking on how to draw clothes, I recommend proportion and human body first.. And muscles, muscles help a lot when drawing a Human body, specially males.

I went through about a decade of unable to pick up a pencil or draw (I plan on getting that drawing pad you had as a sponsor in another video, funny enough I was already looking at it anyways, so might as well give kudos too). Watching yer stuff is kind of reigniting that spark in me that enjoyed learning new ways to approach drawing, coloring etc. Thank you so much for yer down to earth and zero fucks given attitude. I love it, I'm here for it, and I love yer tutorials (I suck at drawing hot anime guys because I learned to doodle girls first even though I wanted to draw hot anime guys lol.) So thank you for giving me something easy to digest! And giving me a little more confidence to start again! (Sorry for the long winded comment T_T)
