The miscommunication plot is like, the only way to cause a conflict between main couple without making either of them problematic and letting readers hate them. Killing stalking isn’t a bl and it wasn’t intended to be one, it’s a psychological thriller/horror. People say it is just like an edgy romance when there’s really no love involved, it’s basically just a story focusing on the codependent, abusive relationship between two really troubled people, which means bl fans end up reading it thinking it’s something else and then getting traumatised

I will always love the “great estate developer” because it avoids sooo many tropes that every other iseikai falls into to. The humor isn’t boob jokes, the emotional moments hit as hard as the comedy (which you never see in a comedy webtoon), it didn’t queer bait the two main leads, the female characters are badass, the protagonist is introduced as the “loser protagonist “ but actually grows, the protagonist also isn’t a saint but a god awful person that does good things for his own personal benefit, no love triangles, no miscommunication, really one of the best Webtoons on the site really wish more people read it

For anyone looking for a really well written, STUNNING art style, and to-die-for characters with lots of trauma but also lots of heart and deep themes bl- please try Tian Guan Ci Fu (TGCF), otherwise known as Heaven Official’s Blessing (there’s a graphic novel in progress, an entire 8 book novel series, as well as an animated series in progress). It’s a Chinese fantasy bl, and the relationships written by MXTX are by far the BEST I have ever seen - especially for BL. Anyone in the fandom already knows the otp of the story basically created love. Plus the manhwa (Chinese graphic novel) is so beautiful it shouldn’t be legal. Just a helpful suggestion from a life-long die-hard believer in this story ✌️I can only pray more people find it, and get to experience how life changing it is.

Daniel Park I believe is a deeper character beyond “self insert” His second body is exactly what people vibe with bc people are very judgemental and the first object of judment starts with looks. I'm not a webtoon sort of gal, but True Beauty did catch my eye when it first came out. I actually loved Jugyeong in the beginning. Her personality was practically off the charts compared to most female leads - and then, of course, it devolved into the love triangle garbage, and suddenly her entire persona was being a whiny girl in love. When the plot lines did diversify, it was just to say, "hey, I (Jugyeong) can make you a better person if you let me slap some makeup on your face!" Like that's the panacea. I guess it's a product of the culture. I somehow stuck it out until the very end... I know, I know, sunk cost fallacy, but I was like 200 chapters deep and just wanted to see how the trainwreck ended. Sorry, not trainwreck. Truck-wreck, since she almost gets hit like - what? - THREE FRIGGIN' TIMES? By the end of the series, I honestly didn't like any of the characters anymore, and it kind of put me off from wanting to give any other webtoons a chance.

If you want to read a webtoon that doesn't have the stupid love triangles. The FL actually has a personality. No misunderstandings (at least not ones that don't get resolved within the next chapter). I highly recommend you read "Maybe Meant to be." The FL can get a bit annoying, but overall, it's a very good comic. Another great one is Serena. There is a love trigable, but it's not annoying and the FL isn't constantly stuck between the two men. She's more focused on saving her family's legacy. She has a very strong personality. The misunderstandings aren't cheap plot points. The whole point of the story is about empathy. Seeing from people's perspectives. The people you think are the villains are actually good. Another one I love is "I love Yoo" It's a slow burn and you will struggle to read through it at first, but it's literally my favorite comic of all times. All fans of the comic say that the creator is a literal genius. The characters are so well written and the mysteries are so compelling. There are a lot of misunderstandings, but it's not used like a trope. It's very realistic and you understand WHY there is a misunderstanding. It's not simply used to drive the story home. If you have the patience, I highly recommend you read it. I mean, there is a whole sub-reddit and a whole website created for fans to make theories about the event. You will find yourself going back 100 chapters because you realized the author foreshadowed an event 100 chapters ago. It's so good!

5:44 i actually have ptsd from this, like i genuinely start sweating and get anxious to an unnatural degree. i stop watching or reading something for months if i so as smell a crazy miscommunication plot, i've cried too much and have been stressed way too hard to go through all that in another story. omfg. ik people use "ptsd" kinda insensitively to describe superficial, basic reactions to things they don't like, but i start breaking out into hives and get tense. it's obviously not as serious as a diagnosed ptsd, but i feel the process of breaking into a panic from going through a potentially traumatic experience all over again, suffering from the feelings of prior experience of had tormented me. it's more so "post-breakdown based off of a relapse of a stress inducing event" disorder.

This. I think this is the thing people struggle with the most. It is fantasy. A lot of love stories are tumultuous in various forms of media and not examples of healthy communication at all. It all depends on if it's meant to either point that out or be total fantasy so that it's not problematic in the sense of understanding that this isn't a barometer for real life interactions. Not unlike porn, actually, which is also wholly fantasy and not a measurement of how people work. I think the issue is when people aren't educated on something being solely fantasy. Twilight and stuff like that can have it's place so long as the reader knows that x or y's actions are not something you'd want mirrored in real life. Whether it's the love interest or even the protagonists themselves.

the need to give consent for literally everything physical is something VERY modern ( prolly less than 10 yrs) and still quite western. Some women in some cultures like a man to be commanding and dominating, as it shows him to be a strong genetical candidate for fathers. Let's be real, Jugyeong didn't deserve Seojun. He was the best and no amount of the narrative trying to pin all of their relationship problems on him (despite the actual story showing it was all because of Jugyeong not communicating with him) will convince me otherwise. I basically stopped reading True Beauty when she dumped Seojun and Suho came back all forgiven and not having any consequences for ghosting Jugyeong (which iirc made her super depressed and was part of the reason why she threw away her dreams of going to cosmetology school). It's even worse when you learn he was texting someone else the whole time (I think it was Seojun, but I don't remember) so he definitely had time to text her.
