oops it's been like 2 years since my last environment art video. I never do these anymore since they never get any views initially, but always end up doing better than average long term so here we go again :) Also low key wanted to work on environments it's been a while, need to do more of these it's the most relaxing thing ever you should try it. right now.

Don't forget guys that Marc is a very experienced painter and can do lots of steps on the go, like gauging the colors, coming up with a composition, determining the perspective of the objects relative to the viewer and the way light interacts with things to make shadows. It's totally okay if you're slower or don't get it right the first, or even the tenth time. If you seem to be having problems with a specific part of the painting (for example, I tend to make my values jump all over the place), try to practice it separately (for example, I put a bunch of different colored cubes in a scene and try to get the colors and values as correct as possible). This way, you are focusing only on the problematic part, instead of dealing with everything at once.

This is helpful for me as I am trying very hard to re-learn many things with my non-dominant right hand. So much of this kind of work used to be much easier for me using my natural dominant left hand; until I had a stroke which paralyzed my whole left side( can’t physically move my left hand at all). So thank you Marc for your instruction and advice on these important aspects of creating art;since I’m starting over from many years of normal work and practice; every bit helps! 👍🏻
@jayd637211 ай бұрын
Hey bud I wish you the best in learning to draw with your non-dominant hand, and wish you good health. It sounds like you have had a harder go then I, but I have basically had to teach myself to be ambidexrious due to carpel tunnel threatening my right hand. Basically its been like that for a couple of decades, it gets really bad, I get checked out and told its not bad enough for the operation, so I taught myself to draw with both hands. The best thing i can recommend is draw with proper form, draw from your shoulder, it makes it much easier on your hands and the muscle memory for nondominent had learning seems smoother.

The clouds casting shadow seems like one of those things that should be super obvious... but this is probably the first time I've even thought about that. It definitely adds another dimension. I'm probably never going to use a clear sky again just so I can add those cloud shadows lol. Reminds me of when I was a kid on the playground and the clouds were moving so fast that you could follow the shadow on the ground as it moves across the grass.

Im currently studying perspective and environment building, and oh my gosh, this is the most fun thing I ever studied. With you, I finally found my art style, I've only watched some of your videos, but I already feel like I've got better on art. I really appreciate how we can fins that much information for free. But ofc, we can learn much more with your class. I would 100% buy your course If my currency was dollars lol.... Tbh, i wil probably save some money this year to buy it, my dream is to work with art, so nothing more fair than paying for it lolol.

I’ve had a coop where I need to paint digitally landscapes, and I do mainly character art, so this’ll come in handy Notes to review for myself Overall, make things into steps of big to small. All elements in a painting are really just shapes that are sculpted with round and hard edges, sometimes manipulating the transitions with texture brushes or whatever is overlapping in front of it. Use the shapes as a means of guiding the viewer to a focal point through the painting like a story. And focus on foreground details with the rest of the mid to background being more silhouette. The rest outside of the frame can be implied with shading which gives volume to everything. - Big overall shapes first - Aim for a focal point in the drawing with leading lines and values for story - put details and texture in transitions mainly in the foreground; dead grass, dirt patches, etc. - clouds are big ploomy round shapes with some air streaks that gave the shadow of the atmosphere on the bottom, and cast onto the ground - Rocks are also ploomy but can take which ever shape with hard edges in shading transition, and the base can have grass overlapping; use rocks and other elements to break up the grass overtaking the scene - trees and rocks are good for silhouette. Add branches with shading. Think about what is off camera as if you are in the landscape

I just got done watching your old video background study several weeks ago. I was thoroughly inspired! But this one, man oh man you make it look so easy! I've been struggling with environments for as long as I could draw. They always look flat or squished no matter how I set the scene. I cannot think in 3-dementions so it's hard for me to visualize how it should look, what size something should be to fit into the scene, or where it should be placed. Always confusing and hard for me to the point I get frustrated and stop working on the piece.

So the trick is really about brushes. To make rain, grass and small details, we have to create our own brushes 🤔 That's interesting. Thank you for the tips and amazing artwork. Looks exactly like those landscapes we find in videogames nowadays.
@zartoru_11 ай бұрын
Not really, everything a brush does you can technically do yourself too, it just is more convenient to use brushes. Like for exemple when drawing grass, if you draw every single grass blade yourself you can get to the same result you would have if you used a grass brush instead, it'll just take way longer. I barely use custom brushes, not that I don't want to or despise using brushes, I'm just too used to draw everything with the same hard brush it makes me forget that brushes could save me time until I spent hours drawing grass the old fashion way :')
@Rionna1611 ай бұрын
@@zartoru_ Likewise! And the result was not even convincing hahaha. I still have lots of practice to do but it's true brushes can save bunch of time!

I'll be honest, I'm really looking for some guidance with this specific step.
