Marc, i recently just recommended your art program to a friend as a Christmas gift to her kid, as she loves drawing and is hungry to learn. She'd already gone through most of your KZbin videos. Ever since Christmas, she has been, according to her mother, drawing and watching your program videos through the night and going to bed in the morning. 😂 Thanks for making such an awesome program.

Marc's art for this week (which is excellent!) is fan art of the popular anime/manga series *Frieren* The art itself is similar to the *Frieren* artist, Tsukasa Abe, with touches of Mika Pikazo. The only thing I would say is that Frieren wouldn't pose like that. If you look at the official artbook or read the manga, you will never see a pose like that as Frieren never tries to act cute. It's not her nature. Mika Pikazo is an amazing artist, but I actually prefer her earlier art. Her current art style is too busy for my eyes. If you want to learn more about her style there are a number of great YT videos which deconstruct her current style. Mika Pikazo uses great colors (triadic harmony), basic brushes (g-pen for hard edges, watercolor), Clip Studio Paint which has a great tool for easily creating screen tones/color screen tones, and Photoshop for final image manipulation. Mika's layer structure is similar to many Japanese artists: base layer + shadows 1 + shadows 2 + highlights (4 layers and sometimes 5 layers: additional highlight).

@@LordTchernobog That's not what is meant by "standards," here. The idea is to sincerely believe that you can indeed achieve the things you look at someone doing, and thank right now that you can't. The "standard" being referred to here has to do with the work put in, not the result that comes out.

1. Our Vision is kinda far from reality and that's don't get simple basic things done. 2. High standards make it a painful experience because you will look at the best and hate your creations that are nice for your level. 3. Changing habits almost unreal and a makes it even more painful. I would recommend relax and enjoy the process, take good sleeps and pause a lot to recharge inspiration. Yes, this field is hard and for autistic personalities. Don't be delusional. Something I've had a big urge to do was to draw every day (like, have my own drawing hour), not only because that's very fun but also because well... It just comes to me that if you do something a constantly you tend to get good at it, but I'm actually very curious if that isn't actually the most efficient way to better artistic skills and if something like, "draw a new fundamental everyday" is better than the "draw whatever picture comes to mind" everday that i've actually really been enjoying now that i got some nice time on hands considering last year was a pretty movemented school year (for better or for worse lol) anyways, love ur vids Marc, keep up the good work :^)

If you ask me, I'd say rule number one: take some time to rest. I said REST. Not playing videogames or spending time on social media. I mean just do nothing. Creativity needs spaces. Good music is made not only with notes, but with silences between them too. Give your brain some real resting time and see the magic! 😉

I realised last year around December that if I had tried the year-long structured plan you gave I'd be a lot better at art at that point in time. One other thing I realised is the importance of scrapping everything not in the main 'vision' as you put it. Failing at the task, important to me because I obsessed over a detail that in hindsight I didn't care for is a rather terrible feeling. Felt a lot worse than just cutting- out secondary tasks ever did, no matter how many of them. These are all skills worth learning, only problem is it's gonna take like a year to get decent progress now that they're at the forefront. Better at art by 2026 sounds almost as good as better at art by 2025 I suppose. ^^

9% is WAY higher than I was expecting. I'm a writer by trade, and it's what I spend all my time on. However, I'm really hoping to add art this year to eventually illustrate my own covers and adapt my work to manga/comic form. I had that same goal last year and dropped the ball.

I watched your video about doing different forms and shapes ( the manequin one) and it taught me a little bit about perspective and helped me draw a few characters that actually looked like humans! MY goal this year is to practice drawing body forms, hands, arms ,heads etc and draw ONE landscape drawing in any form that is a serious project and looks presentable! Doesnt sound like a lot , but at my current speed i can draw a good looking hand in 4 hours and my last character isnt done yet and i started it 5 days ago :D haha.

My new years resolution is to keep a healthy sleep schedule, exercise 3 times a week, and practice more art. With how unhealthy I have lived my life by always having my sleep schedule upside down, sitting on my butt all day/night and not exercising, and being borderline underweight, I don't see myself being able to draw every day till I have sorted that out. So for now "more" practice is enough.

Honestly it's not procrastination. I've been drawing my entire life, and started digital 13-14 years ago. I'm not a beginner. But now it's impossible to find motivation due to AI being rampant already, stealing jobs left and right and making people misunderstand digital art + shit social media algorithm that doesn't show your art to your followers anymore unless you post 24/7 (which contradicts art taking days or weeks), no matter how many followers you have. It RUINS motivation. I've always drawn to connect with other people, which was easy to do before, but now...

Bro... Your word on creating a vision hit me hard. Words that apply to my music projects that are sitting unfinished and unreleased to the world... Im so close to a paradigm shift in life, its actually causing anxiety that im working through to get to the other side. Its just the fear of change, and thats why your words on vision hit hard... Knowing how i see myself in my true form helps break down those fears, i need to lean into the fear of stagnation as someone who i no longer want to be.

《My art goals for 2024》 1. Learn to draw a character properly (anatomy). 2. Learn to draw clothes, practically wrinkles, and folds. 3. Angles, foreshortening, and perspective. 4. Background, the most artists' weakness 😅 5. Composition, something my own, something interesting. 6. Artstyle; Mika Pikazo is renowned for her own magnificent own. I wish to draw something like her, and Kei Urana By the by, could you make someday a video about her art style and how SHE developed it? She is a Japanese mangaka from a new generation who creates a weekly series called "GachiAkuta". I know it takes time for that, but I assure that is worth it!!!

These advices tbh apply to everything, I will say the vision is the main one. Having a vision is fuel for your engine. If you don't have a clear one yet, it's ok. Interact with new things, old things, things, people etc. it will help you refine your vision maybe in ways that you didnd't expect and now you can't think of otherwise

New Years resolutions are literally the worst way to change your habits. It's like they were designed to set people up for failure, they are so bad at the task. I remember when I was first introduced to the concept of new years resolutions as a kid. The first thing I said about them was "That sounds stupid." granted, I was just a lazy kid, however now as a grown adult and with the stuff I've learned about learning and making new habits I can confidently say. Kid me was correct. Your vision sound similar to CGP Grey's "Themes"

Do you have any recommendations on people who have ADHD, I feel I could put time into it but struggle to come back to it. Which ultimately affects me practicing and then I get frustrated and discouraged.

What kind of witchcraft is this guy doing, I swear I’ve been watching so closely the drawing presses and it never fail so amaze me. The way just some lines change everything and little by little you see the drawing come to life. ❤ Also DUDE stop putting the speed drawings I cannot concentrate on anything you say because of how focused I am. 😂

I made a new year resolution to cut social media out of my life. Things like Facebook, Twitter and those other brainrot apps. I was spending 2 hours a day looking at mindless shit like politics, sports and video game dramas and I hate all 3 subjects with a passion. No more. It quite literally wrecks your brain and the only thanks you are getting is your data being used to train some LLM for free. A bit like how AI scrapes art from the Internet and allows some rando to make a living from selling AI generated soulless NSFW works

Good advice, although I disagree with the willpower portion. Willpower is a muscle, and is something one can develop by doing the things that they don't necessarily want to repeatedly and consistently. Doing so helps build willpower and discipline in one's life, which then enables someone to do more. Like a muscle, willpower can also atrophy if you stop doing things you don't like to do. There's some really cool research that's been coming out of the part of the brain that controls willpower. Not really important, as the video more or less provides a good layout for exercising the willpower "muscle," but wanted to add that willpower isn't something that should be thrown out. People just use it wrong most of the time (myself included).

15 hours a week of drawing isn’t very doable for me as a full time animal science undergrad student with his busiest semester. What would you recommend I do for practice during my week then?
