Marc, i recently just recommended your art program to a friend as a Christmas gift to her kid, as she loves drawing and is hungry to learn. She'd already gone through most of your KZbin videos. Ever since Christmas, she has been, according to her mother, drawing and watching your program videos through the night and going to bed in the morning. 😂 Thanks for making such an awesome program.

@@LordTchernobog That's not what is meant by "standards," here. The idea is to sincerely believe that you can indeed achieve the things you look at someone doing, and thank right now that you can't. The "standard" being referred to here has to do with the work put in, not the result that comes out.

1. Our Vision is kinda far from reality and that's don't get simple basic things done. 2. High standards make it a painful experience because you will look at the best and hate your creations that are nice for your level. 3. Changing habits almost unreal and a makes it even more painful. I would recommend relax and enjoy the process, take good sleeps and pause a lot to recharge inspiration. Yes, this field is hard and for autistic personalities. Don't be delusional. Marc's art for this week (which is excellent!) is fan art of the popular anime/manga series *Frieren* The art itself is similar to the *Frieren* artist, Tsukasa Abe, with touches of Mika Pikazo. The only thing I would say is that Frieren wouldn't pose like that. If you look at the official artbook or read the manga, you will never see a pose like that as Frieren never tries to act cute. It's not her nature. Mika Pikazo is an amazing artist, but I actually prefer her earlier art. Her current art style is too busy for my eyes. If you want to learn more about her style there are a number of great YT videos which deconstruct her current style. Mika Pikazo uses great colors (triadic harmony), basic brushes (g-pen for hard edges, watercolor), Clip Studio Paint which has a great tool for easily creating screen tones/color screen tones, and Photoshop for final image manipulation. Mika's layer structure is similar to many Japanese artists: base layer + shadows 1 + shadows 2 + highlights (4 layers and sometimes 5 layers: additional highlight).

I realised last year around December that if I had tried the year-long structured plan you gave I'd be a lot better at art at that point in time. One other thing I realised is the importance of scrapping everything not in the main 'vision' as you put it. Failing at the task, important to me because I obsessed over a detail that in hindsight I didn't care for is a rather terrible feeling. Felt a lot worse than just cutting- out secondary tasks ever did, no matter how many of them. These are all skills worth learning, only problem is it's gonna take like a year to get decent progress now that they're at the forefront. Better at art by 2026 sounds almost as good as better at art by 2025 I suppose. ^^

Bro... Your word on creating a vision hit me hard. Words that apply to my music projects that are sitting unfinished and unreleased to the world... Im so close to a paradigm shift in life, its actually causing anxiety that im working through to get to the other side. Its just the fear of change, and thats why your words on vision hit hard... Knowing how i see myself in my true form helps break down those fears, i need to lean into the fear of stagnation as someone who i no longer want to be.
@LegendoftheGalacticHero5 ай бұрын
These advices tbh apply to everything, I will say the vision is the main one. Having a vision is fuel for your engine. If you don't have a clear one yet, it's ok. Interact with new things, old things, things, people etc. it will help you refine your vision maybe in ways that you didnd't expect and now you can't think of otherwise

9% is WAY higher than I was expecting. I'm a writer by trade, and it's what I spend all my time on. However, I'm really hoping to add art this year to eventually illustrate my own covers and adapt my work to manga/comic form. I had that same goal last year and dropped the ball.

I watched your video about doing different forms and shapes ( the manequin one) and it taught me a little bit about perspective and helped me draw a few characters that actually looked like humans! MY goal this year is to practice drawing body forms,hands,arms ,heads etc and draw ONE landscape drawing in any form that is a serious project and looks presentable! Doesnt sound like a lot , but at my current speed i can draw a good looking hand in 4 hours and my last character isnt done yet and i started it 5 days ago :D haha.

My new years resolution is to keep a healthy sleep schedule, exercise 3 times a week, and practice more art. With how unhealthy I have lived my life by always having my sleep schedule upside down, sitting on my butt all day/night and not exercising, and being borderline underweight, I don't see myself being able to draw every day till I have sorted that out. Well I can proudly say that I came really close this time. I managed to accomplish everything except 1. And that one thing I didn't manage to do was complete one sketchbook. That didn't happen because I kept drawing in 5 different sketchbooks. I began taking art seriously towards the end of 2022 and I've made a lot of progress since then. In 2023 I did the 100 heads challenge. Drew every single day. Got better at gesture. Learnt some anatomy, made a short 6 page comic, started learning to work digitally and a bunch of other stuff Basically I think it's really important to try a lot of different stuff especially when you're starting out. I'm still not sure what direction I wanna go with my art but I'm definitely getting closer. You never know what you like unless you try it out. Also trying out different things can help to stop things from getting boring.

One thing i've been following recently is learning to walk before you run and crawl before you walk. For instance if you wanna go to the gym start small like smaller then you think. workout or go to the gym 1 - 2 times a week for about 2 months straight this is just to build the habit and because it's a lower amount your more likely to show up you are also more likely to crave it then after 2 months raise it by a day. Too many people jump all in and for the few that succseeed great but majority of people can't go all in on a brand new thing without stumbling off your horse. So start small this is true for everything you are also more likely to go harder on the days you do show up even if it's a small amount progress takes time rushing results is what hinders you success

Another awesome Art Therapy video, Marc. As a parent and working full time, my slot for art is at night when kids are in bed. I’m knackered by the time dinner and bedtime routine is over. I feel bad to miss one night of drawing lessons. But I have also seen the results when I get the paper and pencil out and draw stuff and vigorously smudge the charcoal with my blending stump and whip that mono eraser and kneaded eraser into action . Then I sit and say to myself “well done for not slacking off! The drawing is sh!t, but it looks better than the dung heap from last night!” It’s hard but I know I have to make time. My News Years resolution is “No New Years Resolution!”
