This is brilliant. It has been said and will be said more, but if I am commenting, it must be said. When I started taking drawing seriously at the beginning of highschool, I was distraught, because my people lacked all depth. They where nothing. So I started to learn again. I worked with stick figures and drew them everywhere. I looked at sketches of skilled artists, and built up an understanding of how to create a basic skeleton. But I was still distraught, unable to see my achievement and too focused on my failures to flesh out my skeletons. Again I observed others, this time whilst working and made real world observations as well. I continued to practice. I am now able to create interesting dynamic figures with basic fleshing out, but until a while ago, I was distraught the I still was not achieving the level of detail I wanted, despite now achieving depth. I then found one of my old works from many years ago, and then realised how much I had really progressed, because of how awful it was. I now know with continue effort and effective guides made by goo people like you jazza, I will eventually be able to achieve a standard I am happy with. Thanks for reading all the way through my brief drawing life history.

Great and very helpful video! Only thing: you would not swing the leg on the side of the arm you're using, but the one on the opposite side. It's the same when you walk. Most people swing the opposite arm of the leg that makes the step. That is because firstly it gives a force that moves to the opposite, in turn giving the movement more power. Secondly it alows the body to rotate better since it then is able to use the muscles in the whole body, instead of only parts of it when the Body is alredy at the limit of how far it can rotate to one side and is being restricted by that. That Rotation is actually the thing that makes the punch/hit/whatever really strong. I know this is probably not very interessting,because it looks cooler the way you drew it and I have a lot of problems explaining since English is not my first language, but coming from an martial arts Background, where we train this a lot, it kinda bothered me. Thank you for whoever reads through all of this
@n.m.dimmick1948 жыл бұрын
I knew something with that pose was off, though in some martial arts strikes (at least in the discipline I am familiar with) you do step in with the same leg, but you either shuffle forwards or change stances with the strike to make up for the loss of power.

A small comment. Don't minde me much, the tutorial is amazing. I just have a bit of trivia here. Swords are actually not heavy or chunky. A longsword was never heavier than 2kgs (that's 4lbs). While maces, axes and battle hammers have not been even half a kilo heavier. Usually they followed the 2kgs rule as well being shorter than swords but having more mass instead.
@cloudvsephiroth2158 жыл бұрын
As a weapons enthusiast. When you swing your sword you step with your opposite foot. Sword fighting isn't instinctual, it's trained so unless your guy picked up a random sword to fight a burgalar, having never used a sword before, he would have been doing it wrong. Just healthy Critism. love your work Jazza.

On a well balanced sword the center of gravity should fall about four or five inches from the handle. The pommel actually wasn't used as a counter weight 99% of the time historically, however it does add some weight to the handle. Sorry I'm knit picky, anyways the video was super helpful for me which is why I guess I'm trying to give you this information to maybe be helpful in return. Thanks for the video Jazza!

Jazza do you plan to have an e-Book Bundle in your Jazza Studios Store, for people who want to get just Easy Anatomy and Fun With Faces (no reference pack)?
@Irakli0089 жыл бұрын
Jazza can you make a tutorial on how to do the process of putting "meat on the bones". I know you did a part of that in your Body Construction video, but it would be great to see a tutorial on how to turn a stick figure or a pose construction and correctly place the anatomy on it, without making it look like an anatomy diagram, but also showing the knowledge one might have of anatomy. Sometimes a pose might get out of proportion, or the anatomical parts might look good and correct individually, but might not look together and connected as a whole. Let me know what you think.

Jazza id just like to say your hunking great bar of steel is not that heavy. A single handed sword weighs around 600-700 grams. A hand and a half weighs around 900- 1100 grams and a dbl handed or landersnect weights around 1400-1700 grams. So the weight distribution is no as much as you think
@Jazza9 жыл бұрын
yes, but overstating motion and weight in illustration is a fun and often effective way to add drama and communicate physicality :)
@haijyvelho9 жыл бұрын
+SimonPHaywood The double handed landsknecht or "zweihänder" swords are more like 2-3kg. 3,5 kilos at most but it doesn't feel that heavy because the point of balance is near the hilt. Also there are a lot of one-handed swords that are around 1 kilogram and hand and a half swords which are more like 1000-1700 grams. The best quality short swords might be 600-700 grams but I'd say one handed swords are more like 1 kilo, a bit more or a bit less.
@bunnyxqueen18639 жыл бұрын
+SimonPHaywood How do you even know this??
@SimonPHaywood9 жыл бұрын
LOL cause I made my own real weapons for reenactment
@chrisandersen32138 жыл бұрын
+SimonPHaywood Some of that will depend on how long they have been carrying the sword in one hand. Even something relatively light feels heavy after a time. Also (possibly) type of steel etc. used for the sword. The length of sword would also affect weight. But I agree, 99% of swords are not as heavy as they look...
