@@montireddragon927well personally, colouring the lineart should be easy, In my case maybe you could try to alpha lock your line art layer, and just colour it with the colour you want (you SHOULD have your colour and lineart layer separated 😅) and in terms of easy access to the colours, im not too sure as most of the time I use the eye dropper

Amazing, thank you! I would also greatly appreciate an advice on how to practice to get good at drawing these poses and characters in general. What to draw and how detailed? Do studies? Cram croquis? Is photo reference a must? Can I learn from stylized art (manga/anime -- this is my goal) and just bridge the gap with real anatomy reference? Etc. (EDIT: Sorry if it's been already covered in other videos, I just started watching and still catching up!)

It's unambiguous, clear and far more intuitive to me now where and how eyes should be drawn, where and how the mouth should be drawn, how to shape the face and head. Again... This breakdown makes everything so much easier and stress free to think about. Starting out as an artists is so hard when you don't know anything and there's so much noise of videos and tips and rules and guidelines as soon as you try to learn that it can just overwhelm me. This shows clearly that even if I don't want to do full on realism it's still safe and correct to learn these guidelines and specific fundamentals. This removes so much headache of trying to figure out what the right thing to learn is without scrambling from one thing to the next and giving up.

It’s kind of a magical feeling when I follow along making those seven female faces, putting guidelines when only partially understanding what is going on and why… and then I draw in the jaw of the first one and suddenly everything makes sense. I finally “got it” at that point. I could immediately do most of the other ones correctly without following the video, including one at an angle I never really did “right” before. And then I tried drawing one more with your guidelines in the style I’m learning and it worked great for that too. I’ll need a ton of practice (starting with the homework’s) to fully grasp it and have it becoming second nature, but those guidelines will be extremely useful for me going forward. Thank you! If I can make one tiny suggestion, sometime it’s a bit hard to know where you are drawing, especially in the part with the seven female faces. It took me several rewinds to spot where you are currently drawing while trying to match your words with the actions. Also that the thirds aren’t equal sized at other angles: took me shamelessly long to understand that since I was trying to match the “divide in thirds” when the jaw region was clearly more than a third of the size in the 5th and 6th faces.

I think being able to maintain the feel of line art and blocking in stages is really important as well. Kienan Lafferty - a very, very long time ago (I don't even know if he's still active) mentioned it in one of his videos I recall when I was still growing up in Highschool. But your sketches and those early phases can convey some very different appeals and themes than your final product, and noticing what detracts or adds to those feelings that you're happy with in the pre-production phase is really important. For me in this video, I both notice a very different atmosphere and vibe to your final image, than what is in the blocking out phase. In sketch and basic shadows, they look very smug, a bit mean, there's a level of tension, mystery, even in the middle one, a level of seduction. But those elements are mostly lost by the final product. Obviously you envision something and are happy with the final, but I think it's important to think about to ANY artist. Often times you get half-way through final process and go "something's off, it's not quite like the sketches"

Ok seriously probably one of the best videos i have watched while trying to learn how to draw. I been able to get pieces from each section of the head and practice but I do need to learn more to get better. This video has extremely helped on angles and I will definitely be referencing this and using this to help improve. You are amazing!

not sure if I just missed this during my learning of fundamentals, but the eye rule of thirds is something I've never heard of but it definitely helped. Ive always struggled with eye spacing, and this was a fairly simple but extremely effective solution. also, the bottom of the ear/cheekbone lining up with the bottom of the nose is probably just basic anatomy but I never noticed it before and was mainly just guessing on my nose positioning. thanks for the help! (also also, the speedpaint portion of the video is a perfect addition to help with the overall tutorial and something I don't usually see in other similar videos)

This works for everything except Toriyama’s dragon ball art style. Not only are there a ton of iterations, a bunch of Dragon Ball character face anatomies even literally bend space time and break 3D dimensions. Their faces are also scrunched in the middle unlike other art styles, so I had to un-learn everything I practiced before in order to even grasp the fundamentals of Toriyama’s art style.

I think I like this like way better than the Loomis method. Those two lines from the eyebrows really help place the eyes perfectly. I always felt with the Loomis method where the brow line lines up feels more like the eye line
@LinesSensei
@LinesSensei 2 ай бұрын
Will this one is essentially a Loomis method variant. Which is just the changes I've made to the Loomis method I learned to accommodate more cartoony or anime heads. Loomis definitely has a place, as at a minimum a solid foundation for other methods to be built on.
@williammclean6594
