I know you just finished a video, but a video about drawing backgrounds would be so useful. Also red pandas are my favorite animals, so i loved the illustration. Edit: i just realized that perspective can be used to do that 😂

As one of the resident furries I figured I'd give a small info dump about the finer details of anthros for anyone curious. There's broadly 3 major types of anthro construction: true anthros, ferals, and Kemono. This character would fall under the Kemono construction, which is generally most popular in (and originates from) Japan, with close cultural ties to the anime art scene. This why she's giving both Sonic and Nintendo vibes, its a very popular construction style where those companies are based. Kemono's close relationship to anime (and more human construction) make it arguably much more approachable for many artist who haven't studied the dark arts much. The major difference between 'true anthros' and Kemonos largely comes down to how the head is constructed (as well as the legs sometimes), and the base design philosophy. I'm using true anthro here to refer to designs that are based on an animal that is given human characteristics (anthropomorphization), while Kemonos are arguably more a case of zoomorphism; the base construction is fundamentally human, but given animal characteristics. As for the head, true anthros generally have a head constructed more similarly to the animal they're based on, while Kemonos usually have a more human head construction with animal elements being swapped in at a few locations. The clearest separation is the muzzle: Kemonos almost always have very short simplified muzzles that don't alter the silhouette much, while true anthros have more realistic muzzles that alter the form and silhouette much more. The more subtle, though arguably more important difference, is the boxy-ness of the skull. Most mammals, and many reptiles, have fairly boxy and hard angled skulls with a mix of very pronounced features and flat planes, while humans (and birds to some extent) have more soft contours and less pronounced skull features. While there is a huge amount of variation between species and individuals, this rule holds pretty solid, and generally the only soft features come from muscle/fat/skin and fur/fluff. Because of this true anthros usually feature far more straight lines or slight curves, while Kemonos usually have more rounded/soft features. A interesting result of this is that Kemonos are almost automatically cute, and often feminine, while anthros are often inherently more masculine and read as adult. It's pretty interesting how people manage to feminize anthros especially (eyelashes, blush, big fluff, aggressively feminine body, and softer ears are common methods). Also very glad to hear you've escaped corpo world, here's to hoping you remain free from it.

Great video! That panda came out really cute. I notice you aren't much used to anthro characters, so check out one artist called Twokinds, he draws more anime like characters I think you will like it for some inspiration. If you end up making a video about anthro characters design will be very nice as well.

Great video as always.. Sensei, could you do a video about using the 3D models in clip studio paint and sketchup or any other architectural software like blender to help draw comics or manga... it would help out a lot for those of us who want to start making comics but can't draw yet

An idea to include for another perspective video would be accounting for scale when using character head heights, for example two characters who are 6-7 head heights in proportion but ones shorter

How do you know where to put the vanishing point off the canvas to get a certain perspective, or do you just place it really far away on intuition and feeling
@LinesSensei7 сағат бұрын
That's a great question, you place the vanishing point depending how strong you want the perspective distortion to be. So if you have them really close together the distortion will be really prominent, if you have them really far apart, then the effect will be less so. It's up to you to decide how strong you want that effect to be

Nah brah you got it. I've senior work, I know how good you are. It can be uncomfortable stepping into something you're not as skilled that, it means your output will initially be more shaky. But I think introducing it in small amounts would be a good first step. You could try just changing the tilt of the parts of the body as they move up or down from wherever you've picked as your horizon line, just to give the figures a bit more depth. without going too overboard with things like for shortening. To start off with

@LinesSensei9 сағат бұрын
Oh hey, you're not alone feet are actually harder than hands at least to me. I think it's because they have the same level of detail and joints, but all of the finger detail is compressed up into this little ridge along the top of it where the toes are. I did basically the same thing when making this video, I spent like a week doing nothing but drawing feet comma and everyone in the VC thought I'd gone mad.

I have a question. Does using perspective rulers (i.e the ones in CSP) defeat the whole purpose of the skill? Because if I'm using a ruler, am I really training my eye or arm for drawing proper perspective? Btw, awesome artwork!
@LinesSensei9 сағат бұрын
That's a great question, there are tools that will prevent growth, , like the symmetry tool. Things like the rulers in clip studio, I wouldn't say a detrimental to progression simply because what they are replacing is a wooden ruler rather than replacing a skill, like the symmetry tool replaces your ability to replicate and see shapes and reverse them. It's all relative of course, but in general I don't feel like using rulers is detrimental to your drawing ability. Practicing drawing straight lines freehand is useful but not necessarily essential

@LinesSensei9 сағат бұрын
So, rendering is largely covered in the shading video, which is already on the channel. Colouring is a bit of a tricky beast, the actual act of coloring is fairly straightforward you just dump the bucket fill and fill in the gaps. The real challenge is choosing the right colors comma and that's a bit of an in-depth one which I'm working on having covered a little further down the line so do stay tuned. 🙇

Do you think you could make a video showing good drawing exercises to do? Like exercises to improve at line control and such.
@LinesSensei9 сағат бұрын
That's a really great suggestion, I've been thinking about that one a lot lately and largely my advice on what to do to improve your line work on your drawings is to do more drawings with line work. As far as separate exercises to work on on line control etc, I'm not sure what I would pick that would be universal enough to apply to all the different kinds of things people draw, and all the different ways people draw. But it is something that I'm looking into.
