Well, THIS video was a godsend. I can't tell you how many pages in my sketchbook have uncanny pseudo-faces because I can't get the lips right. When I was a young kid, I wanted to be a cartoonist. Didn't work out, art teachers didn't exactly encourage me either. As a young adult I wanted to be a realistic american-style comic book artist, but I struggled to find my style and got discouraged when I couldn't find teaching support. Now? I'm finding I'm flowing into manga art, but it's very much "my" style. I'm not copying anything, I'm INSPIRED into finding my own technique. A large part of that success and confidence has come from you, Marcel, and simplifying and visualizing these various elements. And you know what? When you find that little bit of success and encouragement, it turns out... that's really empowering.

Thank you for this video and all your others too! I draw realism mostly and I am still working on it. That said, when I started my drawings were terrible and learning basic proportions etc. was very, very helpful. Regarding drawing realism vs. a cartoon, I actually find that I learn as much from a cartoon tutorial because a cartoon (a good cartoon) communicates the important information while neglecting the less important details. Sketching cartoons is great practice for me. Sometimes I think the key to progression is to practice and enjoy the journey.

I started out with drawing anime like DBZ and other extremely stylized anime that required fundamentals to actually get right. So now I’m working on proportions, Gestures, facial features, and rendering. Because to me the best way to make your art look good enough that other people who don’t know how to draw will like it, is to have natural and human facial expressions and decent enough shading and exposure that a human brain can see depth
@quantumtwig13035 ай бұрын
I'm still kind of figuring out my art style, I'm trying to learn the basics before I start figuring out my own style but I have been really liking drawing anime. I love the way in anime you simplify everything and kind of elude to something being there while not actually drawing it.
