I know gesture drawing and I know structural drawing in mannequin form. But I didn't know how to combine the two until now. I'm gonna look a lot more into bending and twisting forms. Thanks! Your mannequins is what I hope to be able to recreate myself eventually, they're nice to look at

I'm glad this video has been useful to you. Doing this really helped me get going with figure drawing without needing to know a bunch of anatomy.

I've been searching for tutorials like this until I stumbled on this vid where the mannequin looks similar to mine. This really helped making my process faster and smoother ❤

Could you perhaps do a video on how to "cut" into these forms and add the human anatomy? Many thanks for using your time on making this content for us.

I actually encourage people to switch to a more 2D approach to drawing figures, and then learn to draw the anatomy on top of that. Much like will weston does. I personally think box mannequins should be used as a way of helping you understand perspective in figure, and then you should move on.

This seems really complicated. What should I study before this?
@HadesPsd2 жыл бұрын
I would say, get yourself comfortable drawing boxes and cylinders in various angles if this feels complicated. Then try and apply this by tracing over photo reference.
@Vennnaya2 жыл бұрын
@@HadesPsd How would i apply this? I'm not sure what you mean exactly. And in context of my original comment, i meant more along the lines of...You were labelling different things but that just confused me.
@HadesPsd2 жыл бұрын
@@Vennnaya Ah I see, those things I was labelling were from the human skeleton, mainly the bony land marks on the body, since they are usually easy to see on the figure. And the way you would apply it is by finding those landmarks on photo reference and drawing these simple forms on top. That’s just what I personally do when I learn about simplifications of the figure, I trace over reference to see how it applies to the figure and that way it’ll make sense to me. I no longer draw figures this way, but at the time it really helped me understand perspective in the figure. Once this gets easy, I would move on to more shape based approaches to drawing the figure. Just a quick note, these fancy anatomy terms will get you started, so you know what you’re looking at but you’ll most likely soon forget the names like I have. I can draw anatomy because I remember the shapes not the names.
@Vennnaya2 жыл бұрын
@@HadesPsd I have heard that i should study anatomy. But i assumed it was mostly muscles and such? What Anatomy courses do you recommend?
@HadesPsd2 жыл бұрын
@@Vennnaya anatomy includes learning some basic bone structure, but nothing too detailed. I didn’t take any anatomy courses, I just read Michael Hamptons figure drawing book and looked at Will Weston’s lecture notes on Instagram. Thank you for asking these questions, I’m going to make some new videos about applying these boxes and cylinders to photo reference.
