This tutorial was great and I shared with some folks in another learning centered discored and they also seemed to like it. I am having an issue though, I feel like I am getting the general hang of the rotations/perspective but I feel like I am getting the proportion of the box wrong once I move away from the simple horizontal/vertical rotations. Once I get into the rotations of a box that is already turned (like the 1/4th / 3/4ths and 2/2 boxes) I feel like I put the biggest line down correctly but have a hard time understanding where to place the rest and my boxes come out looking a bit squished or blown up. The perspective is right but the proportions feels off. There any easy way to tell like "ok my biggest line is here on this notch, so the other lines automatically should be here" or are you just sorta free-handing it and going with what "feels" right?
@HadesPsd8 күн бұрын
I tend to just go with what feels right, but for you I'd suggest going on a site like sketchfab and finding a 3d model of a box and play around with that, use it as reference and compare you drawings against it. That'll help clear up any confusion you have. Its been a while since i made this video, but my current stance on this stuff is that the box just needs to look believable, so do your best not to get caught up in any small details. Ive seen many get inside the box, and then never get out the box.
@Peter-wl3tm8 күн бұрын
Yea, but how do you know how much to taper? We honestly the two parallel people tell your boxes wrong and it’s not realistic and then when you taper too much people tell you it’s not realistic, so how do you find that middle ground?
@HadesPsd8 күн бұрын
The degree of taper will depend on camera focal length, wide lenses will show fast tapering/converging and short lenses will be slow. If you're having trouble with the tapering, I'd suggest looking at 3d models of boxes, sites like sketchfab etc. are free to use. Use those 3d models as reference, and that should help you build up a sense of how much you should taper. Keep comparing your drawings to the 3d model, and eventually you wont need it anymore.

So when we’re drawing a cube and we’re observing the bottom of the cube it looks like the vertical lines don’t actually converge. Is that the case?
@HadesPsd8 күн бұрын
If you're drawing in two point perspective, then yes, we treat those vertical lines as not converging.

This was soo helpful, but I do have one question. Why do you draw that blue line down the middle when drawing the skull?

Its just to help me measure how much i'm seeing of the front on the head vs the side of the head, like a ratio.

Do you recommend any book to learn how to draw the figure?
@HadesPsd3 ай бұрын
Have a look my recent video on mastering figure drawing, I mention books in there but I don't think theres any single book out there is going to take you to a high level. Its about taking bits and pieces from different places. I am currently in the process of creating a figure drawing course, that I will release slowly in parts.

@HadesPsd6 ай бұрын
I'm not really good enough at painting to make one yet, but i do think that once you have basic painting skills, from there you pursue painting styles you like, lots of master studies.
