I tend to watch ur videos when i want inspiration to draw. I was watching one of ur videos in the past when i believe you said something about detailed things never looking the same so dont get caught up in the detail and just capture the key things that define what you're drawing.. I drew the most realistic butterfly i'd ever drawn, then drew an extremely realistic rose :) A lot of what you say has a lot of fact to it, so thanks!

i just turned 14 today and i got a present of a whole Derwent Shading kit so im totally going to try this, its very beautiful and detailed. i especially love how you explain every step and take your time. Other people just do it and get it over with. So thanks and i really love your enthusiasm :)

It all depends on what you are doing. I really do love drawing in texture and details to a drawing and can find myself doing it for hours. But at the same time, I do like to try and simplify some aspects of a drawing to help bring out others and vise versa. It is all a big experiment to see how things will turn out in the end. I remember drawing a butterfly way back when and I enjoyed doing that quite a lot. Feel free to post them up if you like on my facebook page:)

Not always. For a video like this, I do each part in one sitting. But those videos where I do a complete video in time lapse usually takes place over a few days.

It really just takes practice. You may find that they way I do it doesn't work for you. I would take a scrap piece of paper and see what sorts of textures and patterns you can create. That has always helped me to be able to get details done better. Perhaps the video I did on pencil shading should help a lot as well. Other than that, it is really just practice.
