How to draw and paint Birds with Pen and ink and watercolor as a part of learning how to draw Animals. In this video I draw and paint a toucan and rufous hummingbird. This tutorial continues the series of videos that demonstrates how pen and ink can be combined with color and other media, including watercolor, acrylic, It provides simple but effective tips on how to draw birds with simple pencil and pen and ink rendering then combined with watercolor to create a very vibrant drawing. Much of what is covered can be applied to drawing other birds, animals, flowers, and other subjects as well.

I do work in an after school program in middle school and am drawing with the students. People can do this on their own with your tutorials by volunteering. I just ordered your book!as well. I work with many students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Paper and pencils are not expensive. Also most low income schools have budgets for after school programs to purchase supplies. I have learnt so much about how to draw in the last few weeks as I have worked alongside your videos and done the drawings and shading, I now see cubes, pyramids, cones and cylinders everywhere :) You definitlh have a gift of teaching people. Hello Alphonso, can I ask about the paper you´re using? Because 300g paper for watercollor allwas get "wavy" and I don´t get crazy with the water amount though.

Use paper that is at least 140lbs in weight. Watercolor paper, heavyweight multimedia paper can be used too.

I love painting birds but am always looking for new ideas to make them look alive and as though they can really fly. So many artists spend hours perfecting plumage but the finished bird seems static and weighed down by effort. I think your light touch and economy of line and detail is perfect for these subjects. when I use watercolor with pen and ink. some times the pen some how will not perform right. I think the pen clogs some times because it is used right on top of the watercolor. then I have get the piece of paper and write on the paper to get it working again. may be I am using the wrong pen for this combo. I use faber castel pens what do you think?

patience is key...I am ecstatic that you have an interest in birds as well, especially using watercolor medium. If all works out as planned, my first art piece to be sold is of a hummingbird for my co-worker's mother. Everything seems to have its time and place.

Thanks for sharing,i use the played brush with heavier pigment by pressing the brush down on the palette loading the brush,with a light touch stroking the paper,it makes very fine lines.

vaisakh pradeep Depends. If you wish for the color to mix, then don't. But if you want the color on top to act as a glaze, then let the under layer dry. Just my general recommendation
