Check out Stephen Bauman’s Block In course! - www.proko.com/course/the-block-in-course/overview

I think what I love most about this video is that the Stephen Bauman is producing quality work that does not exactly recreate the reference image. It comforts me because it tells me that I don't need to be perfect to be competent.

Love to see this process, it feels more like sculpting than defining a contour. Trying to teach myself to draw again and this channel is insanely helpful

I love the approach to drawing in this video! When I started taking art education more seriously, I struggled with the linear, form-construction approach, especially with portraits. Despite that difficulty and the poor results I produced when trying to practice that method, I was still able to produce more faithful drawings in my leisure time by recreating just the shapes I was more attuned to seeing. This video does a good job of articulating how my mind/eyes perceived the world and offers really good insights on how I can take that to the next level. I am saving to hopefully get the longer course soon.

when saying “measuring the source image” are you looking at the reference printed off side by side with the scale being the same?
@ProkoTV7 ай бұрын
It won't necessarily be viewed at the same scale that he's drawing at. But he'll look to a reference to the side of the drawing, printed or on an ipad, and check the relative measurements within the reference to check against his drawing.

Hi may name is Amanda,I'm 15 and I've been following you for a long time,I would like to know that will drawing with a normal pencil make my drawings look realistic,cause I don't have the supplies for the drawing staff yet
@ProkoTV4 ай бұрын
You can use whatever pencil you have and achieve great results. There are going to be some qualities that will be specific to the tools but you can work around most limitations of tools. For a normal writing pencil, know that you can't make it darker by drawing harder or more in one place. At a certain point, it will start to be reflective. Good luck with your drawing!

making portraits from photo's I have no problem doing loosely & quickly by hand and still have it resemble the original. However, for some reason, no matter how hard I try, how drawn out, focused and meticulously I work, I always fail to draw a looking-like-the-original-person portrait from a real life model, regardless how still they sit :/

I extremely dislike working that much with graphite, too messy and feels weird on my skin…just hate it. It’s a necessary evil for cartooning and comics but I’ll never stray from clear line drawing simply due to my aversion to brake pad dust.
