Sorry but have you even watched anything else? Instead of understanding, drawing and detailing clumps, he's teaching us to 'follow' his drawing started with negative space. It's both counter-intuitive and most probably counter-productive. Just drawing a bubbly surface and then detailing it to be hairy would do so much more...

I guess the most important takeaway is to use multiple layers of fur, make sure to have a lot of contrast, and smooth out each individual shade.

I always wondered how artists draw "white" details like fur with dark pencils. I had no idea you could get such a precise and clean effect with an eraser!
@helentee98632 жыл бұрын
Erasers are great. You need the propelling ones,but if you can't find one in an art shop sticky backed plastic can also be used to create a similar effect. Use a small piece,take the back off,press it lightly on your clothes. This makes it less sticky,so you don't pull the surface of the paper off when you use it. Press gently onto your drawing,then use the tip of a sharp pencil to rub gently where you want to remove the graphite. Then peel carefully off the drawing. Where you pressed with the pencil tip the graphite will have come off on the plastic sheet You can use the plastic sheet quiet a few times The other tip is to use paper blending sticks from art shops,,much better for blending the graphite than a q tip/cotton bud. They are great for when you want only a very faint layer of graphite,and really cheap too!

@@ItzZkqxl you’ve nothing to worry about because ALL kids draw before they can write - even you. Picasso spent his career trying to get back to the simplicity of how he drew as a kid! All our beginnings take us on different paths to something unique and personal to us. At first I marveled at These hyper-realistic drawings - but I soon realized they’re more like trophies, that say “look what I can do!” but to draw in a way that expresses feelings should be the real goal, in my opinion because it’s more challenging and even more rewarding. Just enjoy and keep enjoying creating something all your life. I wish I hadn’t stopped for so long. (Im still drawing but I’ve moved on to watercolors🙂)

*Do not underestimate that last step with the eraser.* _(Aside: That's a "Tombow Mono Zero" eraser he's using. @__9:24__. Stop asking.)_ You're not using it to "undo" what you shaded in pencil, you are using it to _draw_ strands of highlights into the fur. Without it, the highlights are defined by negative space _between_ your strokes and are impossible to keep consistent -- which is why it's so easy for beginners to get it wrong. Using an eraser to reinforce that negative space with intentionality is what you're missing.

There is also a step after that, where he goes with a dark pencil and gives shadow to some individual stands of white "eraser" fur. I'm not sure why the video doesn't describe what he's doing, coz it's one of the only steps where a new line is intentionally following very closely a previous line's shape (essentially tracing above or below it). 10:34 when it zooms in it's very clear he is looking for individual stands & clumps of white fur which he is then sharply & precisely surrounding with a carefully placed dark line to provide a high contrast shadow. He simply describes the whole step as _"draw more lines over the lighter fur, it will look more natural"_ which is kinda rediculous, as it is perhaps the most careful & intentioned marks in the entire art piece! 🤐

Wow!! I have watched many many how-to videos on how to sketch fur and by far, this is the best one. First, you talk at a good speed; not too slowly and not too rapidly. Plus you talk when you are sketching. Then the content of what you say is great. You talk about what not to do, you offer up tips on the pencils, sharpness, direction and pressure. You don’t spend a lot of time going over materials. Your video is at just the right speed. You are most definitely a natural teacher, and from the short example of your work part of the video, clearly enormously talented! I will be watching more of these. Hello Lino! That was the technique I needed to know. When I draw I like to do it resembling realism and subrealism, maybe working with some geometric forms and straight lines, but always trying to do it with curved lines that give me a sense of freedom when drawing on paper. I started doing the rudimentary form of your technique 1 to 2 years latter that is drawing a group of lines in one direction and other groups in other various diretions, this was when drawing grass. I wouldn't imagine upgrading this technique I could get fur. ¡Muchas gracias por compartir esta técnica de dibujo! Espero lo mejor para ti, desde el caribe panameño. Addio!
