Thank you for posting how-to techniques, Smoothie. This one looks very easy to do but is very effective in making the stonework look quite realistic. I'm off to view the time lapse. Cheers!

+Angelica G You're very welcome Angelica! it is very easy to do, give it a try next time you paint or draw buildings, it works well with graphite too, thanks for viewing and commenting :)

Thanks for showing that tin of Koh-I-Noor gray pencils! I've got one Koh-I-Noor black pencil that I found in the business writing instruments section of the department store. I bought it and I love it! It makes the blackest blacks of any pencil I've got. But I didn't know there were others. I suppose I'll be doing an internet search for Koh-I-Noor sets now. Thanks.

Well, Jerry you've got a pleasant surprise coming to you when you google Koh-I-Noor...they have a massive selection of pencils and art supplies and I mean massive!!! the company have been around since the 1800's , they know a thing or two about making good pencils, I have quite a few art materials from them, and I have to say they are great quality, I highly recommend them.

+Maria Kellner Thanks Maria, I re-uploaded the timelapse video, I decided to remove the figure after several attempts at trying to improve it, at least I have a picture I can look at without cringing too much,:) thanks for the advice, it much appreciated, I just need more practice with figures .

+smoothie77 ooh smoothie i hope my comments lead you astray,I'd you didn't mention it was a young boy no one would have noticed,its still a beautiful painting.

+Maria Kellner No Maria your comments didn't lead me astray, I needed to here that from you, and I'm very grateful for your expert advice, I knew the figure looked wrong, I tried to correct it, I have always struggled with figure drawing/painting, I certainly need more practice, I feel the painting looks ok now, and I'm glad I removed the figure, lets face it...who would want a picture of an old man having a wee hanging on their wall LOL :)take a look at Maria's superb paintings at www.marylkaart.com

They are very common here in Slovakia, most likely because they are Czech and people here are used to them. I like them although their tendency to being a little dusty can be annoying.

I like the idea. it does seem so much like a hand colored photograph though. I need to try this a few more times to get a more painterly feel with the result. what I see on my phone looks that you do is very nice but on paper no so great. A bit grey washy and weak. .

This may be the wrong video to inquire about, but does anyone have any helpful insights to using woodless graphite pencils? I bought a set from Derwent as my favorite standard sets are Derwent. They feel like drawing with steel rods. Is it the binder, a bad lot, etc? I'm a professional artist but I am truly at a loss here. Thanks to anyone in advance who may she'd some light on this.

to clarify my previous statement... Your work looks very good on video... my attempt so far is not so great. I will keep trying to get a pleasing result.

I'm disappointed, because I really want to see how the wall is painted BEFORE the pencil work. I have a limestone church to paint, and am tearing my hair out trying to get a good method of getting those small stones (as your brilliant artwork shows) to look authentic! Limestone here is light grey, and so is the mortar! Also,it's a middle distance setting, so the stones are clearly visible. Help!

Excellent as always Smoothie and thanks for making me aware of these pencils, are they the greyline aquarell? also out of interested i just got a 36 set of staedtler karat aquarell and i am delighted with them so far. Looking on amazon for these greyline i came across a 72 set of koh i noor aquarell and i am very tempted!
@smoothie77drawingpainting9 жыл бұрын
+david thornber Thanks David, the kon I noor pencils I use aren't the aquarelle version they are the standard greyline polycolor version, it can be confusing as koh I noor make both water-soluble and non water-soluble pencils in all their ranges, and they all look the same, I chose non water-soluble so I could wash over them without the pigment dissolving (line and wash style) I got mine on ebay a while ago, I'm also tempted by the 24 landscape set by koh I noor, the colours look good, but you get a better deal if you buy the 72 set, which I'm also tempted with lol, I haven't use Staedtler coloured pencils before, but I have heard good reports about them, I will see if I can find the link for the greyline pencils on ebay and send it to you.

Yes 15 now but i can get the 72 set which includes these shades for £35 delivered and reviews compare them to caran d'ache supracolour and they are mega mega bucks!!

+david thornber Go for it! its a great deal, and please let me know how you get on with them, I might have to buy the landscape set now, its like I said in the demo," I don't understand why more artists aren't using these"

Be very careful with Graphitint pencils. They do make for beautiful artwork but watch out for light-fastness. They are not very archival. They fade somewhat rapidly

Thanks Robert, yes I have heard there are issues with light-fastness, fortunately i haven't hung any graphitint drawings on the wall, they are kept out of sunlight, stored in a draw.
