I already use markers and colored pencils for drawing but have been having some troubles recently with my technique and this video really helped me bring myself back to the basics and remember how to use colors and view reference images. Even when you are an experienced artist it’s still good to watch tutorial videos and relearn some things you already know to make your art even better.

@arttalkwithmr.s6703
@arttalkwithmr.s6703 6 жыл бұрын
choochoochooseyou the idea is that if you only use darker and darker versions of the same tone, it will eventually look very monotone and muddy. Choosing a dark version of a different color still within the original colors spectrum ( I.e. Warm colors with warm, cool colors with cool) it will enhance the color and maki it much more vibrant.

I have all the PC markers accept the grays. For grays I have a set of Copics from N0-N8 and a set of Winsor & Newton from Cool Gray 1 - Cool Gray 5. I don't know if any of you are familiar with these markers, but I know the Copic N markers are supposed to be neutral, but they seem like they are cooler than the W&N cool grays. I'm going to attempt this drawing and even though it's probably going to come out looking like a cheeseburger or t-bone steak instead of a drink, I would like to at least try to use the correct colors, does anyone know which one's would work better for this or if it even matters? Probably doesn't matter for me. Yeah, nevermind, definitely doesn't matter, I'll go with the Copics, I like the way they blend more.

If you push to hard when you transfer your image to paper and it leaves some indentions in some places are there any way to get them out?
@thevirtualinstructor
@thevirtualinstructor 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie, Unfortunately not. You must be very careful when transferring to prevent this.
@MeganMcCar
@MeganMcCar 6 жыл бұрын
I was wondering this too, about image transfer and indentations, so thanks for the answer :) I've also seen people deliberately putting indentations into their paper (eg with the end of a skewer, to create a textured look of 'white spots' on an apple, for example - once the 'indented dots' are there for texture and highlights of sorts,, the pencil tends to glide over the top of it and the white of the paper is left - another great one is for creating the thin veins of a leaf without 'messing' them up - eg - create the general outline of the leaf on your main drawing paper; ..... have a separate piece of paper with the graphite lines of the leaf veins drawn on it separately, .......then place it over your main drawing and trace over it with an 'embossing tool/skewer; not sharp!) gently, ...... so when one does an 'underpainting (and then layering), the 'indented' veins are left as the original colour of the paper (is this what they would call 'negative' type of drawing?) I guess this is easier rather than painstakingly drawing each vein into the leaf and then carefully avoiding ruining them whilst colouring or shading/tinting - one can just run the pencil(s) over them - I thought that was pretty cool anyway - lots of you probably already know this, but was a great tip when saw it -and applicable to many things .... and i can't believe i had forgotten my childhood days of scribbling over a paper, when drawing, and placing a 'raised pattern (even the corners of paper, or a coin) underneath my paper, and the coin, or pattern underneath would emerge as the pencil/crayon was glided (scribbled) over the paper - ooooooo, such fun!!!! lol! ...... Similar type of principle (though in this case, not indenting the paper (actually 'raising it from beneath) So - I guess that unintended indentations, whilst generally to be avoided - can be very useful too (if intended) - I'm still learning (or re-learning, after a long break away from drawing and gosh, I've learned so much up here!! Fantastic teacher and course - saw it on UDEMY too - and thinking thinking about it! Had already enrolled in another drawing course though before i saw yours - but this one looks very comprehensive and I did enroll in the coloured pencil course, very exciting! ... (and will visitg your website again too (seen the free gouche painting part of the watercolor course, was great!) ..... and yes, I know, I'm rambling LOL, sorry! Just getting very excited - I LOVE learning and seeing something appearing to be 'created' from nothing ....... So again, thank you - people like you, 'The Virtual Instructor' and many others up here, you give so much!

The markers are not Copic Markers; Copic markers have an oval shaped barrel and are a light grey plastic. Those markers are Prismacolor Premier Artist Markers. Prismacolor markers are not cheap by any means but they are not as pricey as Copic Markers. The awesome thing about Prismacolor markers is they match their illustration markers and Prismacolor Premier, Verithin and watercolor pencils. It is an awesome color system with great consistency of color across the entire range of products. You can get all of these products a lot of places but I have found the best prices, selection and customer service from Blick Art. No, I do not work for Prismacolor or Blick and Iam no expert; I am only hoping to be helpful. The person who trolled out that disgusting tasteless comment after Doodle Hood also needs some help but I can only do so much here. SMH P.S. Matt is also using Prismacolor Premier colored pencils on this and possibly their Verithin colored pencils for the tight detail, such as the highlights.

It depends on how saturated your colored pencils are with pigments, and how much alcohol marker you lay down on the paper. If you can, get a few c'aran dache colored pencils (few greys, white and dark colors). If it's still not showing up try adding pastels lightly to your drawing or using blender marker and a paper underneath to desaturate the already colored portion of the paper, the paper underneath will absorb the pigment and making your drawing lighter.
