How to Draw your Pattern Directly on the Leather

I wish you'd do a video about drawing patterns and filling space. I've been trying for two days now to draw a decent pattern to use on a sheath. There's just something I'm missing because I have yet to come up with something that's half way decent.

Thanks for this! I do tooling on leather jackets and the pieces involved are large and not suitable for the tracing paper method, so I need to layout directly on the leather.

will the pencils work on soft leather like deer or moose . thanks

If you are talking about soft brain tan, I might try silver pens from Panhandle Leather in Amarillo, TX. They usually wipe off with baby wipes, but I would try it on a scrap piece first.
