I think plain t-shirts are only boring depending on what aesthetic type you are. For classic types, plain t-shirts aren't boring. For romantic types, they probably are. Gamine, probably not (think Audrey Hepburn with her sleek black tops), but dramatics, maybe. I'm a soft dramatic; my t-shirts are usually stand-out colors, often with a statement neckline, like boatneck or square; draped/cowl, if I can find it. If a subtler color, I'll definitely add a bold necklace or bold earrings.

My favourite was the stripy skirt and denim vest combo. I love layering, don't feel dressed for life outside the home without a third layer. Also loved the jeans combo, a style I'd wear, although may not be able to resist adding a third layer. 😉 which may explain why autumn-into-winter is my favourite season.

If you can't tuck them in than you can leave them out. But I would find t-shirts that fit you well and have a good flattering shape on your body. Also look for hem lines that are more rounded as opposed to squared off. Also slits in the sides are a cute detail you could look for.

You should wear skirts and love them because you have great legs to show off I wish I had nice legs. And yes I use my denim vest I’ve done that layering technique for years and especially if it’s a little cool in a restaurant or the white T-shirt is a little thin I love my denim dress thank you for all your ideas
