Add extra when sizing ■ because a woman's sizing measurements will differ week to week, my small town nanny who was a dress designer knew to add more to the seams; it flatters the body. M

How to pick and style clothes for body shape! And Linda Potgeiter of LindaPaige has the simplest way of explaining it that I've found. In short, you need items and styling of those items to create balance - this is why the "hourglass" (Linda calls it K8) shape is considered "ideal"! The top and bottom of the shape balance each other with less effort/styling. So with the concept of balance - broad shoulders? Flared skirts, pants. More "bootylicious"? Draw attention to your shoulders. And so forth! I can't condense Linda's brilliant fashion system into a comment 😆

This was such a great and encouraging video! I think that you’ve exposed something that a lot of us moms maybe don’t want to say out loud but that we know is true. What a blessing to have a sister in Christ with humility to share this video! The dresses looked amazing on you❤️. Thanks for the video!

I agree the button up shirts tied at the bottom are very flattering on you. I like the idea of looking nice for your husband and family, while also feeling comfortable. Aprons are super helpful to not only keep your nice clothes nice, but can also be cute themselves. Thanks for the app recommendation!

I love how you said that the way media expects a woman to look is “kind of cartoonish”. I am 43 and in the past 6 months I’ve noticed that my clothes aren’t fitting well and my body is changing. Welcome Perimenopause! For over 20 years I’ve stayed the same petite juniors 3 without strenuous exercise or extreme dieting. Slowly but surely nearly every piece of clothing in that size has been donated. I’m tired of crying about it. It’s time to except this new era of a woman’s life, eat real food, exercise, and be grateful for every healthy day allows me to have on this earth.

One of your very BEST videos! What a beautiful message.. and so very true for many of us aging moms… let me just say, you are stunning, inside and out! We women, really need to support and lift each other Up… as you mentioned, it is so easy to fall into comparison and to feel “ not enough”, and we women are enough!! Also, I recently went thru some jewelry that has been sitting in a box, for years! I started wearing many of the pieces, just at home, and my husband noticed!.. we can wait for an event, but isn’t a nice event to get dressed up, and do our hair for our own family a wonderful event?… brilliant video!..👍❤️💕🥰

I love everything you post and this was the motivation I needed ❤ I wear shorts and holey t shirts everyday and as I’m about to go into my 30s I felt the need to do something more for me, my husband and our daughters. I’ll definitely be pushing myself not to wear ratty shirts or pjs into our homeschool area and throughout my every day activities. You have become a God send In my life ❤

Thank you. This is good timing. Im teaching a natural remedy class at our co op. It is for high school students. I feel like i have no idea how to dress . I love to homestead. Im natural but enjoy color. I like the retro jeans and just bought a long denim skirt. It brings me memories of when i started homeschooling 29 years ago. Denim jumpers. 😂 but im still at it my youngest is 12. 😅

I try to dress pretty daily. I have a 2 year old, 1 year old, and 8 week old. I have found that feeling pretty and feminine in what I wear daily has helped postpartum SOOO much. I didn't do that with my first child and I felt like I was in such a rut. I tend toward dresses (with an apron) because, for me, they are the easiest thing to move around in both in the house and in the garden.

My sister and I were just talking about this last week. I'm 44 years old. 80% of my clothes are 10+ years old. (A few things are even from my early 20s! Yikes!) Main reason is that I hate shopping because I don't even know what looks good on me anymore. Even though I'm only 10lb more than my pre-motherhood weight, my body shape has changed a lot.

Your videos are so encouraging! I used to have an allergic reaction to the snaps on jeans as well. I found that painting the part of the snap (or is it a button?)that came in contact with my skin with nail polish helped. It created enough of a barrier that my skin was not in direct contact with the metal and I didn’t break out.

the orange dress is a 10! Love the coveralls as well, super cute, and the silhouette has its own style, even if it seems awkward. Try a "popover shirt dress" with a belted waist, as another option your husband might rate highly... very similar to the 50's look but a touch more modern. A+ on everything, you look amazing and I agree with almost every sentence you spoke ❤

Hi Shayla! I’m thrilled to have happened upon your channel! Your video about the Titus 2 woman was SO good to hear and I took those bible verses to heart! I was raised being told I was Christian, yet only went to church a couple times with friends’ families. My dad, at some point decided it was best to send me to a seventh day Adventist school, not a highlight for me, although they did make me fear God. 😳 I’m now in my fifties and have been seeking spiritual connection for about 20 years. Last year I was inspired to look into “what does God say about that?” and along those lines I ended up finding the YouVersion Holy Bible app you referred to. It’s been so helpful! I looked up the “Finding Beauty” plan, but couldn’t find it. Is it still there or under another name now maybe? Good job taking care of yourself! Your beauty definitely shines through! 💖✝️🌟

This was interesting. I haven't bought anything clothing wise in almost four years. Its just not something I like to do. I have let this area go for sure. I know I would have to really look for things that are comfortable. I am so messy when cooking and in the home. I think I would need to learn to always wear my apron. LOL I understand the aging fast in the last few years. I am going to be 44 in August and I have noticed that big change in the last three years in myself. What a good conversation you started today.

That was a great well-needed video. Thoughtful and in-depth. My advice is wear your items and enjoy them. Obviously not for the very dirtiest of tasks, but as much as possible. As I watch this video I have been sorting through the 2nd half of my old wardrobe of 20 years, (did the 1st half 6 months ago). There are quite a few items I know I will never wear again but I loved them and did not wear them nearly enough because of saving them "for good". I had an idea too, I don't know if you sew but maybe we could find a really great apron pattern to make, one that's as inspiring as your other clothes. There's a channel called Shannon makes and she sews the most amazing garments. I wonder if she has an apron. Also my Dad worked in agriculture and he was always well dressed under his overalls. He did wear jeans for practicality but he ALWAYS wore a collared shirt. A t-shirt was an undergarment to him 😂. If he can look as snazzy as he could, why can't us ladies? This stage of life will move on too and God will provide with what you need, including clothes you feel "right" in. I understand it's not vanity, it's feeling comfortable and well-presented as a daughter of the Almighty. Finally, I loved all your new things, I thought the grey? version of the orange dress looked really nice, maybe because its a dark colour.

i grew up in a farming family - dairy farm in NY State. My father fondly recalls how his grandmother REQUIRED her young men to wear white button downs (long sleeve) even in the hot summer. They also needed to go change shirts to be 'dressed' for dinner. She was a lady born during the late 1800s & that is how proper people were to dress. Didn't matter the job. And you're right - we had things like coveralls & aprons. People expected that their jobs would get clothes dirty & so they took preventative measures to make them last as long as possible. I look at the uniforms my great & grandmother wore in nursing during the 1930s-40s - dresses. I look at the outfit my great aunt wore as a nun, nursing in the Hawaiin leper colony; floor length dresses with full habit. They were industrious & competent. & snazzy. I love that word. I hope you have a great day!

I agree that it is sad ladies will dress up nice for a boss but not daily for a husband. I not only like to look nice for my husband ( he likes it too ) as I work from home but also cause it helps me be productive during the day when I look nice. I have had issues with jeans for so long due to my figure. I'm taller with a smaller waist then hips, nothing fits right & I got tired of wondering if I was showing something in the back as I moved. I have switched to wearing more skirts & dresses. I feel feminine & elegant in them & I love wearing flowing skirt lines to move in easily no matter my daily tasks. When I wear skirts or flowy dresses I don't have to worry about if I'm showing something in the back cause the rise doesn't suit my figure.

I love wearing dresses, and definitely feel better when I'm more ready for the day; my personal dilemma is that I often end up in my workout clothes all day because I just didn't manage to squeeze the workout in (and then shower and "really" get dressed!). Wait till you’re in your 60’s! 😂😂😂 Oh well, aging is a part of living and I’m glad to be living! I have been drawn to similar styles my entire adulthood and as of lately, now that I’m 65, I’m having to tell myself….dress age appropriately! I like comfortable and have finally reconciled, jeans are NOT comfortable nor are they flattering to the female figure…hips and uterus belly! 😂 I’m also trying to shift all my clothing to natural fibers like linen and cotton and stay away from petro fibers which mess with our electrical system. That has been the biggest challenge, but gradually I’m getting there.

First of all I have to say that you have a compact, strong looking, sassy figure! & I mean that as a 100% compliment!!! Your curves are amazing. I have totally stopped worrying about what will 'happen' to my clothes during the day. I just wear what I want & let what will be, be. I love to wear dresses. After having 2 c-sections, one of which was a total botched operation, my mid section is a mess. Jeans are rarely comfortable or flattering. I am fairly tall at 5'6" and run about 150-160. So I not overweight, but never have a defined middle. But dresses can alleviate some of that. I raise chickens, hogs, turkeys, garden, can, clean, babysit, homeschool, cook like crazy, etc...I can do ALL of that in cute dresses. The solution for me is not spending tons of $ because they WILL get ruined! I just accept that. I will think to myself, "oh, I am only going out to get a tomato from the garden" & the next thing I realize I am fixing up a bleeding, injured animal, or rooting around in the pig sty to resolve some 'issue' in there, or climbing over a fence post to get some berries. Holes, stains, snags, blood, dirt, sweat....all part of my 'job'. I look for clearance, I shop 2nd hand, I ALWAYS get compliments. A SMILE goes a long way towards your appearance. No one knows (or judges me) for buying a $3 dress on clearance at Walmart. Pair it with some cute sandals or kids, do my hair & smile, smile, smile. My husband does not want to see me in sweats or leggings. Those are a no-go in my house. I DO wear jeans when we hop on our Harley! 😁I try to NEVER complain about my appearance, especially in front of my 2 daughters. I am a child of a mother with an eating disorder & that is a very painful thing to live through. I never wanted my daughters to think I hated myself so much that I would harm myself. When you complain about yourself in front of others I think you are putting a big red bullies on your faults. No one needs that.
@mountainmamashome
@mountainmamashome 9 ай бұрын
Awe! Thank you, Patty! I'm sorry to hear about the child with an eating disorder, that sounds so difficult. Being a teen in the 90's, I had some experience with that myself. It's so important to realize all the photoshop that is used-the images we see that are put before us as "beautiful" are so cartoonized. Even in video, there are things editors can do. And celebrities that really do look the way they do have undergone some of the most drastic, ridiculous surgeries, like having the bottom two ribs REMOVED in order to have that nipped waist look. When I was a teenager I would cry in dressing rooms. Being closer to the petite size plus being a bottom hourglass means I cannot shop places like Walmart and expect the clothing to look or fit right on me. When I was younger I thought it was my body that was defective, but as I got older and learned more about fashion I realized the way things were made and cut was the problem. Finding stores with petite sections, or looking for petite clothing when shopping second hand (always like looking for a needle in a haystack), made a big difference. Still I find that for the best look I need to tailor some things, like pants and some skirts. I hope the child with the eating disorder is able to see how beautiful they are soon.

@@mountainmamashome Thx for your comment! I am the child OF a mom with an eating disorder.... Not having a child With an ED. I never had one & luckily neither of my children has. But out 1 mom & 6 aunts in my family - they all had some sort of ED or addiction issues. I have 1 sister (& possibly my other sister at one time) and several cousins with some form of an ED at one time or another. Being the child OF someone with an eating disorder is just as frustrating. It completely rules the relationship. I have never really felt like my mother has been 'there' for me, because her obsessions have always had to come first. She can never let go & relax in herself, which makes her unable to relax with others & just find JOY in living. Every thought of every day is centered around how to get a workout in, a run in, cut back on food. One can never go out to eat or invite her over for dinner without a war or silent struggle. The best things I ever did with my 2 girls is 'let go' of any complaints about my body in front of them, not nit pick their food that much, not make comments about their bodies, and to get rid of tv, magazines, & other overwhelming influences of unrealistic expectations, & eat together in harmony every day. One daughter was even involved in a very intensive ballet studio, where many, many girls had Eds, but she never struggled. I am so glad that the Lord removed that from you & that it was not something that he placed on me or mine. But even so, growing up watching someone literally try to kill themselves a little bit every day & rail at you when you 'dare to notice', is not the nicest experience & places much doubt, stress, & pain on your spirit.
