I like the angle technique, I just crank the speed crazy fast and when I start contact I’m very light about it with elbows braced n just on a slight angle in a circular motion. Same motion a coin would make rocking to flat surface. I don’t have a skipping issue I once did, but experience is a great tool to have. Great video
@FOUCHFABS
@FOUCHFABS Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes once you get the technique down you will only have a skipping issue if your bit runs out of teeth, just gotta be careful when it gets low.

Like this guy and his video. If you’re doing this on site might want to have an assistant to shop vac the dust out of the way while drilling. It’s interesting that it’s possible to crack stone while drilling it if it gets to hot. I thought this stuff was formed under tremendous pressure and heat ? My thought is vibrations would cause a crack more than heat. But he’s the stone guy so he knows best.

Faucet holes make a minimum amount of dust even so we do run vacuumed in home when we aren't filming. As far as being formed under tremendous pressure and hear, if you have stone at home if not find a friend that has stone in their home if you have any. Take a vice with you and put in on a corner and turn it , film it so we can see how if it was formed under pressure by your logic this pressure won't hurt it. Lmao. After your finishing with that take a torch with map gas and hold it in the same spot for approx 5min remember to film because by your logic being formed under heat also means this will not hurt it either!

Great video - thank you! I need to drill a 2-1/2” hole in granite for a beer tap tower…along with (4) 1/4” holes around it for the screws. I’m assuming the 2-1/2 inch hole will be similar the the hole you drilled….any recommendations for the 1/4” holes?

What about drilling a bigger hole -5” over 1 small prexisting hole, and 4 screws holes from a over counter beer tapper for a kegerator? Would you recommend doing it or could crack the granite?

Touch the diamond segments on a bench grinder of your bits that are glazed over to open them back up. They’ll cut like new.

I have a granite countertop with an existing 1 1/4 hole that I need to expand out to 1 3/8. Any recommendations about what type of bit I can use to widen it out without risking it cracking. Thanks.
@FOUCHFABS
@FOUCHFABS Жыл бұрын
Any diamond faucet bit will work. 1 3/8 is size you need however they are a bit expensive, the ones i use run between 70 and 100$. U can also open the whole with a zero tolerance bit. If you local to me i will give you an old bit to use.

He’s also using a bad ass 90 degree grinder drill probably 15 amp. I’ve seen it done with a cordless. But they want around 200 plus to drill one hole. I’d make it last a while so the customer doesn’t think you’re ripping them off.

We only charge 25 a hole plus a trip charge. So if my customer complains about $25 they can do it themselves.

And that's only if a hole is added after install. Or they don't have their faucet available at install and we have to go back to home. Idk how anyone can get $200 a hole.

Hey I have a question for you. I went yesterday to home depot to replace my bathroom widespread faucet. The diameter on the faucet valve would not fit in my sink countertop. I notice my original faucet diameter is smaller than the new ones. It seems all of the new faucets are all standard with a 1/2 connection size. Do you think they still sell faucet with a smaller diameter so i don't have to make bigger holes on the pre-existing ones that I have? I rather just find a a new faucet but when i went to home depot yesterday for the second time, i took my old nut washer and it wouldn't fit any on the new faucet handle pipe thread as they are bigger in diameter. Please let me know on your advise. My mom will kill me if i had to replace the sink countertop or if i drill some hole and make the existing one bigger and i end up cracking the countertop. So my safest bet would be to find a faucet exactly like my old one with a smaller diameter sink handle faucet valve

I'm not a plumber butbi will give you my 2 cents. I drill all my holes for faucets the same size, 1 5/8 inch and have never had an issue with a faucet not fitting, however some faucets are short and won't go all the way through stone. I recommend measuring the size of your faucet hole and making some phone calls to plumbing supply stores and asking them for what you need as they will be more knowledgeable than anyone at lowes or home depot. Also you could call a stone fabricator and ask them to make your hole larger as this shouldn't be very expensive and if something happens to your top they are responsible. I hope this helps, and good luck.

I put the tape on there to prevent metal Mark's on the stone. It happens a lot when dropping sinks by hand and the tape prevents it. Thanks for watching

@@FOUCHFABS man I use ocean diamond apexx brand. A more commercial brand I guess. It’s what my company gives us. I’m going on another marble install with 3 more holes. Can you give me some tips for this? Besides low slow and wet? I’ve been in the trade for 10 years but have done 80% in 3cm granite only in Texas and moved to California 3 years ago and all they like is marble around here. Having a tough time with these dam faucet holes. Guess my best bet is keep it on 1. Wet. Do a few seconds at a time. Not a lot of pressure at all. Hope it works out lol
