“Why didn’t I think of that” lol. I have used these for years for glass fusing. I will now use them for mosaics. I invested in a drill press which makes it much easier. Ty for the tip. As much experience as I have never thought of expanding to mosaics.

Hi Felicidad! YES, my drill press makes this much easier, but I wanted to show what a simple drill and some bits can do. They're so fun to cut out. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Thank you JC! It's a lot of fun....I would even say addicting once you get the hang of it. Start slow and get that groove going first! If you don't have the bits there's a materials list below the video in the description portion of the page where you'll find a link to the drill bits I used, and all of the other materials. Have fun!!

I never thought of drilling out circles from the plates! Thank you for this video. I wonder if drilling from the back of the plate might preserve more of the decorative layer? (I've done it this way with wood sometimes; even put painter's tape over the "good" side and it helped get a clean cut.). Also, as I watched this video, I was thinking how using a drill press would be a better way, but you couldn't start at an angle like you did. But it certainly is worth trying.

Hey Julie- I want to cut perfect circle’s out of my stained glass, would doing it this way work? Any tips? A million thanks for your fantastic channel & lessons!!! Thanks so much for listening!! Tanya
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tanya! Awww, thanks for your kind words.😊 Great to hear you're enjoying my channel. Yes, this method works for stained glass as well. Just take your time with it. Because glass is more fragile (and expensive), I would work with smaller pieces in case the entire piece were to crack. For example, *smaller* would mean no bigger than 4" x 6". Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

I really wish I had thought to watch your videos before undertaking a HUGE bird bath project in a yard! Oh well. Its not irredeemable, and WOW do your videos help! Thank you so much for sharing and explaining so clearly and thoroughly. Do you have anything that references cutting out three dimensional items from ceramics? I see one of your projects that has a bunch of roses, and the roses look like they have been removed from other pieces. That would be sooooo helpful for me! Best - leeb

Hi Lee! Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it. Great to hear my videos are helpful. Your project sounds AMAZING!!! I want to do a birdbath. It's on my list! As for cutting three dimensional items from ceramics I would start with using wheeled glass nippers as opposed to tile/compound tile nippers. They're 'gentler.' I would position the wheel further from the base of the 3D item initially, and then make finer adjustment cuts until you've nipped the excess away. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌

Does this technique also work on thinner stained glass?
@JulieWeilbacher

It should. Just make sure the glass + drill bit are fully submerged in the water to keep everything cool.💧

Your videos are amazing, amazing! I am Learning so much. I have a question. yesterday after I came back from a class, mosaic class, a very disappointing class I decided to cut a China plate with my wheeled nippers. I decided to cut into a bowl of water, a large bowl of water. This seem to catch all the little bits that were flying, kept my fingers cool and worked very successfully. Is it OK to do this with wheels nippers cut into a bowl of water, submerging a small area of the nipper?
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Diana! Awww, great to hear you're enjoying my videos and getting value from them! 😊 I personally wouldn't use my nippers under water. I want to keep them in as good (and dry!) condition as possible. Here's a video that'll show you how I use wheeled glass nippers to keep things from flying: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXmlo6iBZ6pro9E. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here! 🔥

Put your china inside a large clear celophane bag and cut inside that. You can see through the plastic and it catches all the bits that fly off. Easy.
