I've recently begun my mosaic journey finally, after many years of it being sort of in the back of my mind. My first real experience with mosaics, I was a kid walking in Rio, and looking down at the stoned walkways in Ipanema. They made wave-like patterns that I loved. The next time I came across this art, was when i visited Disney World in FL, at the Cinderella's castle. They have mosaics inside on the walls that were breathtaking. Fast forward over 30 years and here I am, finally taking the plunge. Never too late for a hobby. I'm glad I found your channel, it's been SO helpful. Thank you!

Talk about good luck! I used to do mosaic of both kinds about two decades ago. I took up growing vegetables when I moved and stopped. A few weeks ago I decided, "I have all those supplies so maybe...". I even have a separate building in the lot. Been cleaning it for the last two weeks. Tiling the mantel of the fireplace, lets just say, involved a lot of guess work after two decades. This video showed up by chance this morning around 4 in the morning. I will definitely watch part one. My huge collection of dusty tiles and glass thank you. Nice video.

@@JulieWeilbacher Hi Julie. From the picture it looks like the tesserae is regular 3 ml stained glass made into flowers and the lines are etched into the glass and then the etched area is filled in with dark grout. Susan (Dale Ritter)

Julie, I am an illustrator. I have been commissioned by an interior architect to do a large scale mosaic based on one of my giant watercolors, for a commercial kitchen. I have no experience doing mosaic art. What is the best tile (porcelain, ceramic, or glass) to use in a kitchen, one that would resist the heat and humidity of cooking? Thank you for any infornation!

Hi Meryl! That sounds like a fun project. All of the materials you mentioned would work in a kitchen environment. I would use a fortified cement-based adhesive and grout to go along with whatever materials you choose. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Hi Julie. If I am gluing stained glass onto mesh that will end up being adhered in a shower do I need to use tile adhesive? (Vs weldbond?)
@JulieWeilbacher Жыл бұрын
Hi Tara! Weldbond will work fine because your mesh mosaic will eventually be installed in your shower using the appropriate adhesive. You're using Weldbond to lightly adhere your tesserae to the mesh...so you don't need to use a lot of it. The final adhesive during installation will come through the mesh openings and 'grab' or hold onto your tesserae. Hope that makes sense. Sounds like a fun project! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
@robinmilner89052 жыл бұрын
great video thank you. you didnt show how to adhere piece you made on the mesh to your final substrae wedi board paver etc. i am guessing just put adhesive between mesh and surface.

Hi Julie. Do you think using the glass cutters in combination with the running pliers would work on breaking various flower pots (glass, ceramic, terracotta etc)? I’m looking to create flower arrangements with broken pots but only small portions cut off the pot, like a corner of a pot but want some control over how the pot breaks. Some people just use a hammer but Thats too risky for me. Thanks!
@JulieWeilbacher2 жыл бұрын
Hi M. A.! I would use compound tile nippers to break the pot down initially. Then you can make finer cuts using wheeled glass nippers (for glass), and tile nippers (for ceramic and some thinner terracotta). Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
