Your how to drink whiskey like a gentleman on the Modern Rogue is how I found you and kick started my whiskey journey.
@jjy3k10Ай бұрын
A technique I've found that helped me and newbies I've introduced to Whiskey, especially higher proof whiskey, that helps people topple the wall of high proof alcohol, not necessarily a tasting method, but anyway - is to exhale sharply after taking a sip. The lingering ethanol in your mouth after you've taken a sip often gets inhaled directly into the lungs as most people tend to take a breath after they take a swig of whiskey. Sharply exhaling after swallowing expels that lingering ethanol and reduces the burn/bite significantly, in my experience. Slainte!
@WhiskyForBeginnersАй бұрын
For me it's instinctive to exhale through my mouth when the alcohol scorches my tongue. I suspect it's because my tongue is so sensitive to hot spice - too much black pepper literally hurts, and hotter spices are acutely painful. At least for the moment, breathing out over my tongue cools the blaze. Alcohol of course evaporates far more rapidly than capsceisin (sp?) dissipates.
@marctestarossaАй бұрын
@@WhiskyForBeginners It's spelled capsaicin and it's not easy to get out of your mouth, because it's not soluble in water, only in fat and alcohol. So your saliva can't really wash it out and transport it.

I enjoyed my stay at Dowens Hotel, just 2 minute walk from Aberlour distillery! Great tour! The host came out and her first statement was”are any of you driving?” I toured several distilleries this was my favorite. To me it had a hint of whisky!

Not knowing anything about it I bought a cask strength Abelore. One of the best whiskeys I have ever had. Dangerous that it did not taste like the proof. Have not seen one for sale since but look forward to seeing again sometime.

I got into whisk(e)y around the end of 2020, and I still have trouble getting specific notes sometimes. That said, when I picked up an Arbelour 12 a few months back, I did get chocolate out of it, so thanks for the validation, Daniel! lol

I would suggest drinking Whisky through the mouth rather than the nose. The nose is for nosing, the mouth is for drinking.
@marctestarossaАй бұрын
you're right, raisin is more precise than grape

Good advice. With people who have never had neat spirits I often tell them to only take enough to coat their mouth leaving nothing to swallow. After they get used to that I use your "hot coffee" analogy. Aberlour do good things although they annoy me with 500ml bottles. For me GlenAllachie has become my quintessential sherried Speyside. Tamdhu and Glendronach can go too full on for me.
@francisoconnor2392Ай бұрын
You mean 700ml ?
@petevjАй бұрын
@@francisoconnor2392 no, wish I did! The tight bastards sometimes use 500ml bottles, them and That Boutique-y Whisky Company drive me nuts with it.

Great attempt at the Scottish accent. Brought a smile to my face. Perhaps you can share what the front, middle, and back of the palette are and where the finish is experienced. People talk about the Kentucky hug or the warmth felt in the chest, yet I feel nothing like that. Is that part of the finish?

The slurping I've seen with the Goodram show on youtube. Jason has got it down pat. I tried that and fried my nostrils. I felt it up to my eyes I think. For me ever since the St George Baller where the nose no where near matched the palate I really don't nose anymore. I feel it can bias you.I must say though is is one of the better videos explaining the whole process.

One thing i really struggle with single malts being mostly a bourbon drinker is the strong grain forward note its really hrd for me to distinguish any notes from a bottle other than graham cracker and the sherry finish for a speyside

I have a sherry question - I’ve been enjoying a Bunnahabhain 12 cask strength which is bold and spicy, but why? How is it so different from a sherry bomb like Aberlour if it’s still a sherried whiskey? Is it the cask, location, grain..etc ?
@utoobiaАй бұрын
Bunna 12 CS is also a sherry bomb, especially the ‘22 version. And it’s much superior to Aberlour 12, 16…you name it. Bunna is bolder due to much higher ABV.
