I will definitely be practicing this, seems like a huge time saver - thanks!

Thanks very much for a very informative video as always. It has certainly given me something to try. I do try to fly a little when on a really rocky planet as it’s such a drag going up and down those big rocks. Personally, I think people who watch these videos should take from them what they want. I see absolutely no point in coming in a shouting your mouth off just because you a have a minor disagreement with what they author has said. Well done and thanks :)

I peronally set pips to 1-4-1 and never change if I am not in fight situation. I also fly with SRV, it is faster and safer than driving fast and take a rock under a wheel and loose a lot of integrity because shield does not protect the SRV from collision like ship one does (and I am wondering why). I hope in the futur a new kind of srv like an hovercraft, it will be enjoyable.

To cover larger distances, use a geyser and nail the landing 35km away :D Caution, may cause orbiting a planet in an SRV.

Haha. Nice! Does this count for the 500 and 1000 miles driven in an SRV trophies/achievements?

Nice video. Did this for fun the very first time I ever drove a srv and have never stopped, thought it was common knowledge.

I thought so too. but as i mentioned people often comment on it, so this why i made the video

Off topic question but have you ever had you ship randomly blow up while using your collector limpets when asteroid mining? I just had this happen to me. I was stationary and when my two limpets came and dropped of the void ore to my cargo I got a black screen and then the ship blew up. I uploaded it just now to my KZbin but I’m not trying to get views or anything, just curious if it’s a known bug?

I too drive like this. So much so that I always look out for the next 'lip' I can use to jump off of :D. I try to spend as little time on the actual surface as possible.

I never recognized that Pips to Sys does somethin when you try to avoid fall dmg. would make no sense either cause its Hull dmg you take not shield dmg so let me see how you test that. What helps although its kind of a bugusing method is to only land on 1 wheel. It sometimes works so good that you can fall from km hights without taking 1 point of dmg. But carefull its a bug and its sometimes just dont work so i only use it when i got an "oh shit"-moment and it saves my ass sooo many times. Whats important too if you want to avoid srv-spinning is to let go of the wheel-throttle right before you touches the ground. And touch the ground with all wheels at the same time helps also.

You actually take less hull damage if you impact the front wheels first vs. landing flat on all 6. Also, not sure why you're putting pips into systems since SRV shields only protect against weapons.
@DowntoEarthAstronomy5 жыл бұрын
Even tho the shield don't take damage them self I think they still reduce the damage taken.
@wonder_platypus83373 жыл бұрын
I wish that was how ships worked. It doesn't really make sense that they stop all hull damage until they fail.

you CAN change your direction of trave while "flying", it just takes a lot of thrust...sideways thrusting does correct your corse, don't say stupid stuff pls.

trust me you are much better of landing and doing you correction on the group then trying to do them in the air.

@@DowntoEarthAstronomy i don't have to trust anybody...i know that it's more inefficient, which is also depends on the gravity, which you totally disregarded talking about in this whole video! so you are influencing decisions with saying stupid stuff, is what i do not agree with. and apart from being disinformative, it's alo disempowering and promoting followership instead of learning and using basic physics to make educated decisions. i advise not speaking in this manner or commenting like this.
@DowntoEarthAstronomy5 жыл бұрын
I started by what I said in the video. I would never recommend any one to try and use you thrusters for steering in flight. You lose you altitude control and wast valuable engine power. If you have another method that works better for you. That's fine. But this is the method I belive will work best for the majority for players.
@MartinPlanner25 жыл бұрын
what makes you so defensive? come on man! relax! losing altitude control is only a concern because of gravity, the less you have, the less "concern" i rather say attention you need for that. you also not considering evasive manouver type of course adjusting mid flight, and when a steep hillside comes up i'm not gonna slam harder down early, just to realign course. rockhopping is about space physics and FLOW, and groundflow is not always "vertical", but comes in many shapes and forms. learning to manouver in such enviroment requires the knowledge and understanding of how it works, not just "how to do this trick" type of practise. and i don't care about players, let alone "majority" if you would bea REAL down to earth ASTRONOMY, instead of "dave playing games for fun" you would have discussed actual physics and what tools one have when rockhopping, instead of "hey guys this is how i do it and what works for me" video. so don't defend why you made the mistake, don't take it personally, this was a criticism to bring some points to your attention to assist you to getting abd being better at what you do, to make more useful videos. tkae it for what it is, and stop "being hurt" by my words on your screen.
@DowntoEarthAstronomy5 жыл бұрын
I just realised what the main difference been you and me is. As you said yourself " i don't care about players, let alone "majority" ", and that's where we are different. I do care about others players, also the minorities. I mean i spent 20+ hours a week making videos to help other people I don't even know progress in this game. If you go back and see what i have previously uploaded you will see plenty of science focused videos, but this one was really just a "Dave playing games for fun" kind of deal. It could be fun to go and have a deep dive into how realistic the physics is when it comes to the SRV (i expect not very realistic). You know what i might just do that.
