Watching your videos. Thank you so much for making this additional content for N plate drivers! I passed 4 months ago thanks to all your helpful knowledge on KZbin. I’ve been so nervous about doing motorways especially the m50. Probably because I didn’t expose myself much to them while I was learning (rarely even dual carriageways or n roads because I’m nervous getting to speed) and it’s been a mental block for me. Find it hard to find someone that will go with me to practise (that isn’t more nervous than me 😂😂). Hoping I get there soon. That and parking between two cars or tight spaces is the only things I struggle with my driving. Otherwise I’d go anywhere 😂😂

Appreciate your videos, havent driven in about 10 years and feel really out of practice. Was never keen on motorways due to high speeds but after your video feel much more confident to go on it.

Drake summer That's great to hear thanks for your comment, let me know how you get on the next time you drive on a motorway, you are absolutely correct as a lot of people lose confidence after so many years out of practice and roads and junctions change over time. Don't be afraid to seek a few refresher driving lessons with your local driving instructor. Best of luck with your driving 😊

I feel much safer using blind spot mirrors. If you're not used to them at first as they don't tell you the distance the vehicle behind is, but at least they tell you there's something to your left or right. It just takes s little body and head adjustment to see that vehicle.

There is no possibility to use only left lane for driving in Dublin area between 3pm-8pm as it's too busy. 2nd and 3rd lanes practically are used for constant driving by the vast majority of the drivers at peak times, particularly on M50 (I drive through it everyday Mon-Fri).

@DaneTygheletsdrive2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes they might be moving over to allow you to enter the motorway, be careful not to misinterpret other drivers. They're not all bad.
@SteveMcIlhennie10 ай бұрын
Many drivers move out to let you merge onto the motorway. It is up to you to find a gap to merge and not those already on the motorway. You don't have to find a 4 plus second gap between 2 vehicles to fit into. In theory you "should" have a 2 sec gap from the vehicle in front and behind. In busy traffic it's not always possible. If traffic to your right is doing less than 80kmh you can legally pass on left. The same as in UK.

Hi Dane, Great video! I'm learner preparing for my 2nd test soon. And joining Motorway/Nation roads is still a nightmare of mine. Last time when I tried to join N6 from a slip road, the traffic on N6 was so quite heavy that I can't merge into a left lane of N6. So I decided to not to join until at the end of the slip road, where the 2 lanes merging into 1 (the broken line is finished at the middle of junction, just like the one you joined in this video at 3:26). So could you please clarify me with 3 questions as follows? 1. What if we can't join a motorway or National road? Should we stop at the end of slip road, waiting for a chance to join, or move into the hard shoulder then join from there? 2. In case of the broken line at the end of slip road stops at the middle (as at 3:26), and we merge at the end of slip road, do we need to signal before joining then. (As I saw someone doesn't signal in that case). 3. In my case, I signaled halfway on the slip road, but can't join until end of the road, there was a car behind me and he also signaled to join, then he joined at nearly the same time as me and just behind me. I thought maybe he saw me signaling but not joined yet, so he decided to overtake me to join. He gave me a horn because he and me joined at same time, and he needed to braked at bit as he can't overtake me on the left lane then. So did I make a mistake for not being able to join, but still let the signal on, so I should cancel my signal as I'm about to join at the end of the slip road? Did he make a driving fault when trying to overtake someone who also signaled to join a M/N road then? Sorry it is quite long but I hope you could read and answer. Thanks a mill. Danh
@DaneTygheletsdrive4 жыл бұрын
It's good to signal, don't use the hard shoulder and keep checking mirrors so you don't pull out in front of another vehicle.
@peppermeat_2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad someone asked this question because I was always wondering what you do in the situation when your on the slip road (auxiliary ramp) trying to merge and the slip road is ending but you can't get over? What do you do? Stop? Keep going? I have no idea if you keep going and don't drive on the hard shoulder then you are just merging at the end of the slip road and just forcing your way on to the motorway. Any advice would be appreciated because it is one thing that I can't seem to get a clear awnser about and whenever I need to drive the motorway my first thought is 'I hope I can merge on safely'
@DaneTygheletsdrive2 жыл бұрын
There is no specific answer as it depends on the situation, markings and other traffic. I can't just give you a simple answer that covers every dual carriageway and motorway. The best advice is to regularly check mirrors before joining and enter the motorway or dual carriageway if a gap is there, keeping your indicator on and hopefully someone will let you merge. Probably best to not stop at the end of the slip lane if you run out of road. Prevention is better than cure.
@peppermeat_2 жыл бұрын
@@DaneTygheletsdrive i appreciate you taking the time to reply! I guess there is no specific rule as like you mentioned it is situation based! In a perfect world drivers already on the motorway would see a car merging & move over a lane or slow down a little to let you in but thats not always the case 😊 I guess you just got to make your intentions clear and merge in the best & safest way possible 😊 thanks Dane your video really helped 👍

You're not going to get a clear answer because there is no specific answer to the question you have asked. It entirely depends on the individual situation and the best advice is to indicate early with regular mirror checks. It's not ideal to stop in the slip lane.

Hello, could you tell me please, do I have to do right shoulder check before I left slippery line (when I'm merging with left line of carriageway)? thank you
@DaneTygheletsdrive2 жыл бұрын
It's not really a yes no answer because it depends on how busy it is, not usually essential but it's no harm if you're not sure. By the way it's not a right shoulder check it's only just a quick sideways glance.
@SteveMcIlhennie10 ай бұрын
You "should" check over your right shoulder. It's not always necessary but it's a good habit to do it.

If I saw a car from the left indicating which is about to merge into my lane, and I cannot change lane to the right because of many vehicles behind and right of me, like you did in 11:45 is it necessary to step on the brakes lightly enough for the brake lights to illuminate indicating that the driver behind me that I'm slowing down in order for the merging car to enter into my lane in front of me?

Thank you for your video. I have to say you drive very ok and with all rules, however during the video plase tell to viewers about another drivers, what they do and who is driving ok, who is not. For example please don't mixed overtaking (Van at 12.44) with just driving. This van wasn't overtaking, was just driving on middle (2nd) line. If he/she will overtaking after passing your car shut change line to your line, but didn't. Many drivers don't understand what's meaning overtaking and they are diving on right line for 50km. This is not overtaking. This is just driving on wrong line.

@@marekkownacki8704 That's when there's only one single lane you can only move to the opposite side of the road, overtake and back in. UK Highway Code Do Not overtake on the left OR move to a lane on your left to overtake. It's one manouvre and not three.
@marekkownacki870410 ай бұрын
@SteveMcIlhennie Unfortunately this is not right. Here you can read rules from official AA website: "Keeping Left on Motorways The image above shows the layout of a three-lane motorway. The basic principle is that you should always drive in the left lane (lane 1) unless you need to overtake a slower vehicle or vehicles, or unless the lane is blocked. Once you have finished overtaking, move from the right lane (lane 2) back into the left lane as soon as it is safe to do so. On a three-lane motorway, there is an extra overtaking lane (lane 3), but you should still keep left as much as possible. i.e. don’t drive in the right lane if the middle lane (lane 2) is empty, or in the middle lane if the left lane is empty. You may also need to move out of the left lane at a junction, to make room for vehicles merging from the on-ramp. Again, move back into the left lane as soon as it is available. Some vehicles are not permitted to use the right lane: HGVs, and any vehicle towing a trailer, horsebox or caravan. An exception is made where there is no other lane available due to an obstruction"

They not speeing up the cars to the traffick and they pulling to the first lane with 60-70-80 km /h especially old people doing this without signals. They don't even know that the drivers passing by there have priority over them and just look stupid and honk why they don't let them into the line.
