I was there the day those guys punched out. They were approaching runway 22 at Cannon AFB. They ejected and landed near the end of the runway but the jet (without anyone controlling it) continued on its way and crashed in a farmers field west of base. I was working EOD and it was my job to find all the CAD/PAD bits and pieces (explosive parts that cut or move things) and dispose of them safely.

The B-58 Hustler had escape pods for each pilot, they allow you to survive supersonic ejection which is great

On production aircraft the crew module could also act as a life raft if it landed in the water, complete with a bilge pump and floatation bag (courtesy of the attenuation bag), both maintained by using the control stick. This would have been particularly useful had the F-111B been adopted by the US Navy.

The EF111 WAS the most badass of them. The nuclear deployment capability was taken away due to wing box cracks and other problems with GFR units.
