Making edibles from vegetables is a dying art. I love following the progression from seed to plant to harvest to table. When you raise food you just learn how to turn it into stuff to eat. Many times when I show neighbors my side yard garden and offer them vegetables they don't even know what they are, let alone what to do with them. Sad, just sad. Thanks for adding this aspect to your stories.

Sometimes the best camera shot and the most efficient way to do a garden task don't coincide. In this case, it was going to be a better shot bringing the onions to the wheelbarrow as opposed to moving the wheelbarrow around the plot. Thanks for noticing.

Great show Travis. After the show on mulberries. I ask around and found out my wife’s brother has a big mulberry tree behind his shop so jelly time this Saturday. Pulled my onions 4-20 let dry in the plot until Friday then put in the shop in two garden wagons. Been pulling them out in the sun to finish drying. Next year only two rows of onions 12” spacing. Planting zipper peas this weekend also. Only 2 inches rain Saturday from that storm.

Thanks for this video. I was wondering what the kohlrabi tasted like. I may buy one at the store to try it and then get seeds for them. So you plant them same time as onions? And you compost the leaves or just burn them? Ty ty was so helpful. Wish I had a little helper to get closer to the ground than me. But my 6'6" son helps me alot. We walk around the garden and blackberry vines together almost every morning and in the evening checking on it. Sometimes I wish he were that little again. My how he has grown! Kohlrabi is a pretty fast crop -- usually only takes 30 days or so from transplant. So we can plant it anytime from fall through spring. It's a good crop for succession planting to ensure a continual harvest. It's pretty cold hardy.

I want to make a rack similar to yours but the high cost of lumber and building materials right now, I’d have to rob a bank to pay for it. .LOL

You could use pallet wood for drying rack. I built some raised beds with some. They are usually free. Good luck. I loved the drying rack also. I see many of us building one of those after this video.

@@apiecemaker1163 I was able to pick up a rack from Fred's discount store after they sold all their plants from it for the season. All they were going to do was throw it in the dumpster. If I had known I would have gotten more. Now I'm on the look out for more racks. The pallet idea is good too. Good luck!

@LazyDogFarm

We don't really get below 20 -- maybe once very 10 years or so. They'll store for 3-4 months on the rack like this, which is pretty good for down here.

Thanks for showing us about kohlrabi. I was wondering what to do with it and how to grow it. I bet it would be good with some poppy seed honey dressing, something like that.

I have a question for you, I pulled my onions and left them outside to cure for a few days and them put them in my shed on a rack to finish. When I pulled them a few of them had some squishy spots, after a few days, I went back to the shed and almost all of them had soft smelly layers. This is my 1st time, so I need to know what I did wrong so I don't repeat. Any suggestions?

Not sure unless they had already started rotting a little when they were pulled.

Leave the salt out until just before serving. Salt will make the kohlrabi or cabbage lose its moisture and make your slaw soggy.

I love fresh cilantro, but detest dried cilantro. I hate that cilantro won't grow in hot weather. Not being able to make pico de gallo with both fresh homegrown tomatoes and fresh cilantro sucks. I'm going to have to try that cilantro lime sauce. Maybe I can find a way to make that work in the summer.
