I'm also from Fl and long board surfed a couple times. However I am from flagler county so I was always in the ocean, either relaxing or body surfing. I've got a great feel for how the atlantic and that area's waves pull and push. So it's pretty easy for me as far as timing is concerned. The ocean in a weird way has always been a friend. 🌊

Great tips! Subscribed! I’m 46 years old, 5’9” 150lbs. I’m not much into the short boarding since I was a kid. Took a long hiatus and I’m into my second season on 7’6”-9’0” boards. I love the bigger boards, more waves and I’m older now so I appreciate the ride much more. But being of smaller stature It can be tough punching through at times. Definitely gonna follow your duck dive tips and practice while usually wasting time out in the lineup waiting for the next set! Hopefully this pandemic Lockdown will be over soon to catch the next swell! 🤙🏼

Thanks Mo'e. Where I surf the waves are rarely big enough for a short board. I thus mostly surf a 8', lately more a 7'3'' when the waves catch some more height, so I never learned to duck dive. I will probably try that longboard duck dive on my next session, and that out the back stretch also seems interesting for when you're waiting for the next good wave.

You could try to check out northern Germany coasts, especially the eastern one, according to the forecasts you could get up to 2m waves there with NW wind. It's not a single day trip from the middle of the country (looks like 3h drive) but it might be a good weekend trip. We're having almost the same conditions in Saint-Petersburg on Gulf of Finland and even Ladoga Lake, it's not ideal, but it's a way to have more than a couple weeks of surf every year so on a good day lineup is crowded :) Good luck with this! Cheers

Long boards are the way forward. Got mine a few years ago. When the waves are small it's really good. When the waves are big it gets me in early. When the waves are medium size....... I don't want to change to a short board for just one surf now do I? So I just end up riding the log all the time. It's a slippery slope my friend. 🏄

Surfed for 54 years, still on a 6’6. long boards are like riding in a vintage truck, shorts boards like a sports car. If you can’t surf or thrown in the towel then go a long board
@saintnick8290
@saintnick8290 3 жыл бұрын
@@frankennis2947 can’t ride a 6’6 in all conditions. If it ankle to chest high ride a longboard, chest to overhead I’m on a fish. Anything bigger it’s the 7’10” for me. Point is the surf is usually in the longboard range where I live. And with the Covid surf boom in crowd I’m staying longer more often. That’s what I’ve learned after 35 years of surfing. But what do I know. PS no one follow my advice. I don’t want you catching more of my waves;)

This seems really great, the bigger the board, the easier you catch waves and the faster you go on the wave. I think most people should buy a board with extra length, width and thickness. Surfing is not snowboarding, it’s not a board sliding on a flat surface, it’s first and foremost a boat that needs enough flotation. I once tried my friend’s intermediate board, a7’6 with a short board shape, well l caught waves like crazy and l covered a lot more terrain on the wave. Don’t know why it didn’t catch my attention to buy a much bigger board. Only now, 15 years later did this information connect in my head, lm so stupid.

Brooo i got this bic 8'0 mini mal righ and its so hard to duckdive and get out the back (i been surfing for about a year now), absolute pain of a long board but when it catches a wave its so rewarding and fun, all the times ive caught waves and tried standing on ive found its been really unstable (mind you its supposed to be a 3fin settup but its missing two fins and the fin slots are custom i think bc i havent been able to get any for it), anyway i could stand up like half way on it post lockdown, about like kneeboarding kind of but not really i got alot of memories with that board and even though i aint the best surfer, its still my favourite thing to do, i go surfing with a bunch of mates and one of them would tell me that when theyd turn back to look for me my board would always be 10ft in the air going vertical and then id come up gasping for air after a wipeout, shits fun i recently bought my own board a 7s 6'6 Jetstream so I don't have to use my fathers boards and worry about getting them dinged up and such and i havent been able to take it out yet due to the weather here but i appreciate the tips in the video, i am going to keep switching between the two boards and see if i can improve on the 8'0. Must say tho that board is wild

What if a big wave is approaching.. will you ditch the board and just swim under the wave?

How many liters this board has? Can you still duck dive a 50-70L foamie with this skill?

I’m very surprised you didn’t list going over a wave as an alternative. I can post back, lift the the nose as the wave approaches and lunge forward just right, and go over up to 5 feet of whitewater. If you aim your nose at just the right spot of the approaching soup, then lunge hard and distribute you weight as you move properly,it’s much better than a duck dive. I’m 5’11” and 160 lbs so it makes it almost impossible to duck dive a log with any effectiveness. The trick is timing you forward lunging momentum and aiming the nose just at the right angle, where the nose is low enough not to have the whitewater flip you back, but high enough to just bump you up and over as you push your weight back forward and back into paddling position. I’m going into my 70s now and this technique still works for me especially on my 20 lb plus logs
