After tearing both of my rotator cuffs and having to sit out of pretty much all upper body for a month I realized proper form and control would be paramount to my success. After you showed me the proper form with this exercise, I am happy to report my shoulders are SCREAMING like they've never been worked before! I never realized that I was suppose to keep the weights controlled slightly to the front of my body. Thank you so much.
@garebear49799 жыл бұрын
Agreed. After dislocating my left shoulder from snowboarding, I too realized i have to be very conscious of my form since more dislocation would mean surgery for me. Positioning my elbow slightly in front of my torso when doing this exercise really ensures that my shoulder doesn't pop out on the way down.
@csmurphyx5009 жыл бұрын
Same story here. Didn't tear both my rotator cuffs (!) but had issues with mine meaning I just left the shoulder press alone. This video demonstrated a simple form fix, tried it out today and my shoulders ache but in the good way that they should ache after a good workout, and no rotator cuff issues! Thanks for the video.

Your front deltoid (shoulder) is the target but the exercise uses the lateral (middle) part of your deltoid, as well as your back and core for stability. Using Dumbells over a Barbell forces your body to recruit more muscles to stabilise the weights, however you can use more weight with a bar :)

ATTENTION! PLEASE DO NOT DO WHAT IS DONE IN THE VIDEO. This is a great way to ruin your rotator cuff. Specifically, the tendon that attaches to the supraspinatus(one of the four rotator cuff muscles) will rub against the acromion (a shoulder bone). This will lead to degeneration of your rotator cuff tendon. Instead put your elbows slightly forward more in this exercise. If you want a video explaining this Athlean-X does a very good job. Type athlean shoulder injury or something like that in youtube.
