I recommend against putting the shoes in the dryer. The prolonged heat from the dryer can break down the adhesive that holds the rubber parts onto the canvas.

One thing I’ve learnt about dye is hand wash it first with soap and water to avoid dying your washer, let it completely air dry, repeat until you don’t get dye runoff and then wash it in the washer on cold but air dry. The cold keeps the dye from bleeding but using a dryer can ruin the shoes

Van you use the RIT dye on canvas sneakers that are already a colour ? I bought a pair of Superga (new unused) on eBay that looked a nice orange colour but turned up they were cantaloupe melon orange. I want to dye them a darker orange.

Yes. It's a different material so it will dye a different hue and may or may not fade.

I tried this method on some white converse after doing the Vaseline and dying the shoes I could see the Vaseline bubble floating to the top. I was worried but I thought they would still be okay but after the hour I took them out and the soles were tinted pink. I’ve spent a bit of time with nail polish remover and it has lighten them a bit but it’s still pretty noticeable I’m wondering if anyone else had this issue with the Vaseline..? And if so how can I make them go back to white?

Stitching thread is made of a different material from canvas that doesn’t take the colour as well. Certain synthetic fabrics/threads will not take as much colour on as a more cotton based option

I think the threading is made from a material that can't be dyed for some reason.

@@Craftletics the stitching is almost always polyester, and the RIT dye used wont bond to synthetics, only the cotton canvas. (there are dyes for synthetics).

The stitching is probably polyester, which is harder to dye. This type of dye will not dye polyester!

Well put together video but I think this guy capping for views. No way the Vaseline would prevent the sole from getting dyed. I tried exactly what he did. Soles got dyed. Should have followed but the Rit website suggested. Which is vinyl tape or electrical tape.

Don't listen to this guy. I legit tried this method and ruined my Converse 'all star' , the Vaseline method is a big scam, it just doesn't work. I applied two coats of Vaseline but still the midsole got dyed. Instead use an electric insulation tape . One observation from my experience is the heat of the water would ruin your shoes rubber midsole & the glue that sticks it to the canvas fabric . Just don't trust these KZbinrs with such stuff. You never know if they could be showing you an entirely different shoe because they have the freedom of editing the video and it's not live. Trust not this method!
