How to Dye Cotton Black | Dying with Procion Dye

WARNING These instructions ONLY work for natural fibers and are specific to black dye. Other colors take a different recipe, and other fabrics may need a different type of dye.
Here I am dying white cotton bobbinet from Dharma Trading. The dye, and other ingredients are also from Dharma. I have always had wonderful service from them over many years. Highly recommended!

Thanks for sharing the process. I remember my mom doing this when I was younger and she would even color her (white satin) shoes to match her outfits. Very detailed and interesting.

You mentioned that the potash and the salt were for fixing the dye but also you finished with another fixative. Are all three of those products necessary to fix the dye in the fabric?

What happens if you just dump the whole soda ash solution in? 🤣🤣
