Hey guys, Mac Guzman here. This video explains how to earn the Den Chief Service Award. This recognizes scouts who serve as den chief for at least a year, understand Cub Scouting, attend den chief training, and are active. Den chiefs are Scouts who assist a Cub Scout den leader or Webelos den leader.
Here are some good points on why Den Chief is a good leadership role:
🔵 Scouting role model for Cub Scouts
🔵 Holds leadership position in troop, fulfilling an advancement requirement in the unit
🔵 Promotes Scouting/local Troop in particular to filter cubs into Troop
🔵 Encourages transition of Webelos Scouts into Scouts BSA
As a Den Chief, a scout has a responsibility to assist his or her assigned Den, and be understanding towards the younger Cub Scouts.

Tips for Starting Den Chief:
A Den Chief assists Cub Scout meetings
Get recommended by SPL and Scout Master
Get approval by Cub Master/Pack Committiee
Get approval by Den Leader of Cub level
If teaching AoL, you are more likely to have those scouts filter into your Troop
Look at the Den Leader's meeting plan beforehand
Since Spring Break, I signed up for four Merit Badges online with the Central Florida Councel. Any scout nationwide can sign up for these badges and the cost is $5 - $10 each. Please note the online classes are Monday through Thursday and start times are all Eastern Time.
