Tips for Beginning a Merit Badge:
- Have a Subject in mind that interests you
- A Counselor's job is to guide your understanding of the badge, NOT to give you all the answers
- Use a Blue Card to get Unit Leader's approval when starting a badge
- Identify any Counselors that are in your Troop
- Read the requirements before starting a merit badge
- Print the workbook for a merit badge to write down notes/answers
- See what events are offered locally, on the district level, and on the council level
- Sign up for online merit badge courses
Since Spring Break, I signed up for four Merit Badges online with the Central Florida Councel. Any scout nationwide can sign up for these badges and the cost is $5 - $10 each. Please note the online classes are Monday through Thursday and start times are all Eastern Time.
