I think it actually helps. I'm not sure, but it looks like the longer you fight him, the more heavy demons spawn. I took my time once and got gangbanged by 4 or 5 cacodemons, couple of mancubi and prowlers. But at first there were no more than two cacos abd maybe an occasional mancubus.

For the final part where he has no armor, I’d recommend always staying at the bottom part in the middle. There is a re spawning crucible and chainsaw fuel pick up down there. It is also good because you can stay down there and be impossible to hit from most of his attacks. Always use the crucible on the whiplashes or the barons, any heavy demon basically but those I’d got for instantly. Whenever a fodder demon comes down there always flame belch it and chainsaw it no matter how much ammo you have, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Use the super shotgun ballista combo against the icon of sin. Use the two jumps pads on the right and left down there and be careful not to hit the monkey bars on the right jump pad, I kept doing that and it can really mess you up. That’s the strategy I did and I think someone else did it too but I’m not sure. :)

I’ve actually found that the shield mod for the chain gun, it only covers me from the front. The Gladiator fight was where I first noticed, as I was using it during the wave attack, and a couple of prowlers hit me with their purple fireballs, killing me for the first time on that level. I then tested it, and I seriously don’t think it protects you as a bubble anymore, I remember there being a patch where they changed it due to Battlemode, and I’m pretty sure it applies to the campaign too.

The shield mod blocks some damage during the gladiator boss, not all. However that does not carry over to icon of sin entirely. The only damage you take are from area of denial attacks the others pointed out. Other than that its free real estate.

It took me three months but I’ve finally done it. I love this game so much. My best advice to anyone struggling with the Icon of Sin is this: always keep moving during the first phase. If a demon crosses your path, flame belch, then crucible it if it’s a heavy, chainsaw if fodder. Use every single BFG pickup. If you go into the fight with two, you should be able to break five pieces of armor with just BFG ammo. During the second phase, try to stay on the opposite side of the building as the Icon. Keep flame belch/crucibling heavy demons to keep the arena clear and your health up. Finally, USE THE SHIELD MOD. It will protect you while dealing heavy damage to the Icon. I hope this is helpful for anyone attempting to complete a run!

Thank you for the all the level guides Cynic. I just beat the Campaign UN yesterday! I have a few tips for people who are still under the process. Ready for the long post? Here it goes :D 1. Be patient. This is very important. You will fail and you will have to restart from level 1 quite a number of times. It's ok.. everyone goes through this process. My slayer was killed by the Icon of Sin in the Final level and I had to restart from Hell on Earth.. was so disappointed but I kept going. I would recommend taking a break before starting again, to lower your frustration. Try e.g working out, playing another game, taking the day off if need be. 2. As many people say, the hardest levels are the first three..but I would also add doom hunter base to it. From super gore nest onwards it does get easier if you use your tools correctly. Practice quick switching, using your equipment, moving a lot, ballista boosting, meat-hooking around, single dashing (for faster recharge) and try not to stay in once place for too long. Oh and yes Chain-Gun shield is amazing when you want to mitigate damage/or you are super low. Practice switching to it instantly to avoid incoming damage. 3. Practice each level on a nightmare save before attempting it in UN. You need to be able to get through it without dying consistently. 4. Watch speedrunners and see how they make certain demon encounters easier. I'm not a fan of level skipping but knowing certain tips e.g. when to hold your chainsaw pips for bigger demons was very useful early game (esp in Cultist base) and even in later stages sometimes. Learn which guns/combos work best on which demons and learn how to take down each one as fast as possible or at least bring them into a glory kill state. 5. Keep your stack up!(Armour, Ammo, Health). Armour especially is something easily overlooked.. try to use your flame belch off cooldown, its good to have extra armour shards on the ground as they last for about 15-20 secs and can easily be absorbed when you take damage. Always try to have some armour stacked up on top of your health. 6. Use the runes that best suit you. Experiment with them before starting a run. You can even switch them between fights to get the best outcome.. if need be (e.g. switching to Chrono strike to land important shots). I used Blood Fuelled, Air-Control and Dazed and Confused. Switched to Saving through in encounters that I knew were tough. Try not to lose your Saving throw too early. Though if you are confident enough, you can choose to continue without it, you just need to be extra careful. I lost my saving throw after getting CC'ed by the Doom Hunter in level 4 in my UN run. But since I had practiced further levels quite a lot, I chose to continue... the Icon of Sin was nerve wracking without having Saving throw but I managed to come back from my 2nd UN death from him.. which brings me to my last and most important point.. 7. Learn to restack well and keeping a cool head when restacking close to death. This skill specifically got me through my UN run. At the Icon of Sin fight I got low to about 20hp.. but I kept my cool, dashed away from the heavy demons, found a fodder, got some stack there and went up from there. Remember to pull out your chaingun shield, and use your equipment asap if need be. My recommendation to practice this is to get low on normal Nightmare saves and try to recover from there again and again. This will help you develop a cool mindset and stop you from panicking in dire situations during your UN runs. Additional info: Using these strategies I have completed UN in all the current game modes. One difference being that I used the rune Equipment fiend instead of Blood Fuelled in DLC1 and DLC2. I finished the main campaign last and realized that Blood Fuelled suited me better. Long post but I hope this helps. All the best folks!

In that room where the Marauder spawns followed by an Archvile if you aim and shoot the BFG so it travels outside the room into the distance it’ll kill everything in that room and still be close enough to kill the pain elementals when they spawn in. Just did this yesterday. Tip for Icon pt 1 -- if you destroy his armor pieces fast enough you can essentially stun lock him as he does something like a 5-10 second animation for each piece. So I start off with a BFG to begin the stun, then go PB/Rocket and when that runs out Ballista/SSG.

I really can't thank you enough for these videos, they were extremely helpful in the beginning in figuring out what to do, and for demon spawns once I was back in the good old Doomguy grove. I just completed UN and I know your guides were what helped me do it so soon. I'm also so tired after that. It's kinda funny, the first attempt I did today ended on the 4th levels opening train ride, and then the next had me fly past my previous best (the second phase of the Gladiator) and beat the game. I know this is four months old, but I learned that after the last arena before the highway to the icon, if you ballista boost from the last arena to the building with the grabbable walls and the jump with the dash refill, all the demons on the highway will straight up not spawn at all.

Icon of Sin fight tip: You can also Crucible his body parts, it just requires really timed hits in specific hitboxes, usually I Crucible the stomach mainly because it's the easiest to reach, or his arms when he slams on the building.

Just finished Ultra Nightmare, thanks Cynic! By the way I have a tip for the first phase of the fight. There are two lunch pads launchers on right and left side located at the middle floor of the building. I jump there back and fourth on that side and I find it easier that way to take out Icon, beware though when he moves his hands goes for an attack so you immieadetly dash opposite of that direction, plus it will help you invade demons much better. Only demons that can approach you are Pain Elemental and Cacodemon so keep that in mind. Use all types of ammo you have, but if possible save some of Chaingun ammo so you can activate a shield just in case. Use Demote Rocket Launcher, Super Shotgun, Ballista and Micromissiles (or Chaingun dunno wich gives more damage) Refill your ammo when, if you wanna go down for fodder demons only when one part of Icon of Sin body is starting to explode. That should give you time. And keep Ice Bomb equipped just in case you run in some demons blocking your path to launch pads.

Can't snipe everything before dashing across to first encounter but you can easily snipe the cachodemon & revenant and sometimes the arachnatron depending on where he's positioned. Definitely makes the first part of first encounter easier.

I found a way to skip the arena with 3 tyrants. just go to where the buff totem would spawn, use the mokey bar and grab onto the highest ledge you can and then jump onto the stairs and done

I believe there are four possible groupings of demons: Baron of Hell and Revenant; Arachnotron and Carcass; Cyber and Regular Mancubi; Dread Knight and Whiplash. The Baron of Hell and Revenant grouping are the easier bunch, in my opinion. I hate the double-Mancubi version.

Today (1.11.2020) i beat UN. Never give up. Ice bomb, lock on rocket balista, chain gun, doble granades kills him in less than 6 sec. Or granade, balista, lock on rocket, granade, chaingun (shield), balista... Shoot it untill it dies. Worst scenario use the BFG. Edit: play on nightmare several times, identify where you die the most, practice, practice, practice. After 4 trials, start UN. Avoid the slayer gates in cultist base and mars core. That's how i played it.

@@lordpredator8855 my problem are ranged enemies like the gargoyle they keep firing at me draining my health and the cacodemon appearing out of nowhere and Biting me I can't focus on them cause I have to focus on the other demons

@@axe1447 i think you are referring to the part of cultist base, where you gain the rocket launcher. Yeah it is a tough fight, but easy when enough practice you'll have. 4 Mancubisis, 1 Caco and gargoyles. So this is how i have my weapons: -Sticky bombs (only the second upgrade: 45% bigger explosion to kill the easier demons like imps, gargoyles and zombies) (you'll only upgrade that, nothing else, the other weapon points you'll use for lock on rocket mod, all 9) -sniper scope on heavy canon -heat blast -no mods on the launcher because you will gain in that section. Runes: Corono strike (one of the best runes for UN). Combined with the sniper scope you can destroy the canons from the Mancubie. For me it's the best thing for UN (i mean the scope). Sentinal cristals: loot magnet (ammo and armor) literally the best combination for the start of UN. This combination will suck loot from much farther away. Making easier when you're low on health to pick up more health. It can save you. First preator suit point will go to the faster dash refill. So you will gain 2 preator suit points before the fight. 1st will to destory the turret of the spider brain. 2nd point will be to burn 4 demons with flame belch. Before going into cultist base you'll gain the 1st free preator suit point, the second preator suit point will be right after you kill the 3 mancubie in the halls, at the beginning of the level. So the first thing you need to do is to disable the Mancubis on the left when you gain the rocket launcher. Heavy cannon disables the Mancubis's turrets. Then flame him and give him 3 rockets. KEEP MOVING AND JUMPING WHILE KILLING HIM, because the Mancubis opposite of the arena will be firing at you. As soon you kill one of the 4 Mancubie a Caco will spawn. 1 sticky bomb and he is dead. After killing the first mancubis, focus on the mamcubis opposite of the arena. Again the sniper is your best weapon. Then you disable the 2 in the middle of the arena. Again granade from the equipment launcher and the sticky bombs can destroy the turrets quickly, if you aren't precise. DON'T FORGET THE ROCKET LAUNCHER. flame the gargoyles and you will be fine, the heat blast can also save you 5 shots can kill a gargoyles. But most of them you'll kill them by your rocket launcher and the sticky bombs. If however the 1st Mancubis is together with the other 2 in the middle of the arena focus on the Mancubis opposite of the arena. Again snipe the 2 turrets and he won't be a threat. Again use jump pads, together with sniper and corono strike. MOST IMPORTANT NOTE KEEP MOVING IN A CIRCLE OF THE ARENA. Never stop moving. After killing the first Mancubis and disabling the turrets of the 2nd one, opposite of the arena, I go like on that jump pad, like right when you take the rocket launcher and then quickly i go right then i rain down rockets and granades. I repeat the same thing till everything dies. When i have low health i go the area where the opposite mancubis was first there. There you can find 50+health and some rockets. 1st move 2nd shoot. If you get punched by the Icon of Sin , EVEN WITH SAVING THROW , doesn’t matter if you close the app when screen turns grey, TAKE A KNEE - GO GREEN - YOU ARE DONE . It’s over , start the game over again . Found this out today after about a week of getting the boss on Ultra Nightmare .

Icon Health Tiers (Highest to Lowest) Head Chest Abdomen Shoulders Hands Bfg insta kills any part *exept the head on phase 2* so save time by hitting high health parts Micros on arms and hands as the missiles travel far faster than the bfg shot. ssg and balista when out of amo for micro missiles 1 full amo micro missile volly breaks the hand and shoulder amour on phase 1 and weakens it a lot on phase 2 phase 2, focus one part at a time and make sure it stops flashing red when you hit before moving on. this is so that you don't waist any time trying to figure out which part you are missing as the damaged parts can be hard to differentiate from the destroyed parts. phase 1 fire the bfg after an attack animation as he always goes into the same idle pose between attacks, making shots easy to land. ssg ballista on the top right/left platforms are very effective along with micro missiles because of how close you are to the arms. use the boost pads on those upper platforms to jump between them to avoid being hit by the icon or surrounded by demons

I took me so much time to kill the Icon of sin that it died by itself and the game told me that I won a trophy for staying alive that long LOL I was too busy fleeing from that riot of from demons LOL

Idk why im watching this as im scraping through ultraviolence with nothing but previous fps skill - no quick swaps or skills needed to beat UN, i just dash and hope for the best
