I actually liked the lore in 2016, in fact i can simplify it down to a couple sentences. You play as DOOMGuy a man with eternal rage, demons killed his family and pet bunny so it is now his mission to kill as many demons as possible. During your crusade for genocide you were critically injured at some point where you were then found by Space Crusaders. The Space Crusaders patched you up and then trained you and put you in their army. Demons now invade the Space Crusaders planet and start killing everything. A weird robot angel dude gives you godlike powers and then the Space Crusaders make you their king. Now you can genocide even faster. A Space Crusader loses his son and in his grief betrays his brothers for the chance to see his son again. The Space Crusaders are scattered across Hell and it takes possibly months for the demons to trap doomguy in a cursed coffin. At the start of 2016 you are awoken from your nap and the cycle begins again. There you have the simplified DOOM Lore.
