After running around all day and breaking a wood burning kit I watched this video and it took me 5 minutes to cut my box after that. Videos like this save lives.

Yes! I’m not using it for a litter box, but I need to cut holes in the sides or tops of storage bins and I always painstakingly would use my wood burner to melt out the hole!

Also you can use a pool noodle around the edges. That’s what I did with mine and the ones the dollar store are the best because they sell them year-round even in cold climates states and there’s a smaller ones which snug better.

Wonderful video! Thank you! I'm making a hedgehog feeding box, and not one of the how-to videos comes anywhere near this. And we don't all have the sophisticated equipment commonly used in these videos. I have used my hair dryer and made a perfect square hole in less than 5 minutes.

This is super helpful- thanks so much! I got a cat enclosure for one of our litter boxes and the pan I got to go in it is just a hair too big and I don’t want to go thru the hassle of returning so I thought I could just cut it down to fit nicely…. I’ll be doing this later today…

Thanks for video. Our cats have used that kind of container with no cut out. I'm thinking we should do this. As they get older they won't be able to jump over. What about a whole box that is only 4 or 5". Will they just throw litter all over the place? They spread the litter even with a tall box. Thanks all.

I've never seen anyone else do this! I thought of it years ago when my male cat would stand up to pee in the box and I was constantly cleaning the WALLS. (gross!) I needed a tall litter box and the one I bought had a seam running around the middle which allowed the urine to leak out. Double gross! So I came up with this idea and it completely solved my problem. Wish I had had your vid to show me how to do it properly - I destroyed three bins before getting one to work!

Extremely good idea. I wondered how people cut holes in totes. I was thinking of using a hacksaw but the utility knife is much better.

@@CatToyLady Oh good. No rush then. 🤪 I hope the cats don’t get rv sick. 😊 My son uses Apple Air Tags on the pets collar if they get lost while traveling. I’d be terrified one of my cats would sneak out the door. Have a safe trip. 🐈🤗

In your title you mentioned Rubbermaid, but said Sterilite in the video. I tried using the Sterilite shallow containers 4" to 6' deep, IIRC.. Total fail. They would crack after the first 3-5 cleanings. (No, I did not cut them or hit them). I concluded it was likely something in the cat urine that caused the plastic to become brittle. (Chemical reaction between the ammonia and the composition of the cheap plastic, I think ? I am not a chemist.) I have the same breakage problems with their other containers too. I suspect it's the chemical composition of the plastic. They also seem to fail if they freeze and are dropped. They then have shattered on me. A nail file can smooth the edges of the plastic too. Rubbermaid is IMHO, a vastly superior product, even if it's more expensive.
@CatToyLady2 жыл бұрын
I have used the sterilite for years as litter boxes. I’ve been lucky that they have been holding up. After about a year, I do make new ones, they seem to hold a stinky smell once they get too scratched. I choose these since they are clear. Having visibility can help in multi cat houses with not having urine behavior issues.

"Alternative method": what is the other method (supposedly the reference method)? And does it work even better that what is shown in this video?

@@freedomfighter5222 What's shown in the video is okay. I prefer to use an oscillating tool with a grout blade attachment. It's faster, in my opinion.
