I learned to turn the wheel/drum 2X and count the rotation of yoke to get the ratio, always worked for me. I did it in your video, I got .308 while you were still turning the drum. Your way is way more accurate than mine though. Great job, always comes in handy and thanks for sharing.

I just did it the easy way, RPO code inside the glove box GU4 = 3.42 rear end. Wish I had the 3.73 for racing.. but the 3.42 is perfect for low rpm highway driving.

I have seen a couple of different ways determine the gear ratio. This was by far the simplest and best explained!! Thank you! Just want to add a little tip. Instead of trying to count both the wheel turns and the driveshaft turns at the same time without a helper. I put my phone under the truck and recorded the drive shaft turns while I turned the wheel. Then I just watched the video and counted the drive shaft turns.

Great info, clear and easy to understand. I have an 82 C30 I'm looking at unpgrading from the stock TH400 3spd transmission. Im ultimately wanting to tow at normal hwy speeds. 65ish mph. I am looking for recommendations on what to pair with the 454 in terms of transmission choice and wether or not I would need to swap the rear ends. I believe it has a stock 1 ton rear end in it.

Ring and pinion set, axil seals, and a differential cover gasket is what you need. Wishing you all the best for the future

I just took the 3 inch body lift off left the 4inch suspension lift on it and its on 35s instead of 38s

Are you doubling the 15.4 because its an open dif? A posi trac wouldve actually turned 30.8 times?

Less, you want to go down in size like 3:55 or 3:30

the smaller the # the better, this one ended up being a 3:10 gear ratio which is perfect for tooling around town and having fun.

So I have an 87 Blazer K5 308 10 bolt that the guy put a locker in and put transmission oil in instead of differential oil and it blew up and I'm thinking about putting a 4 11 gear ratio in it what would you suggest I'm 19 don't know too much about it working on it myself

Is it lifted and what size tires are on it, 4:10s are very low for daily driving

I always found 1 turn would do,if it was a posi the pinion would turn just over 3 times for a 3:08 if open slightly over 1.5 times.
