In this video, I’m showing off something I built called the GMB Competition Tool.
This is a tool I use to help contractors figure out how many reviews they need to compete in their area, and how big of an area they should target.
Here’s how it works…
You pick a location and a keyword (like “remodeler”).
Set a radius around your area.
The tool pulls up every business on Google Maps in that radius and shows you the average number of reviews they have.
For example, in my area (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho), the average remodeler has about 6 reviews. But if you want to be in the top 3, you’d need around 18 reviews. And if you want to beat the top contender, you’d need more than 33.
I also tested it in a more competitive area like Minneapolis. In a 10-mile radius, there were 47 businesses, and the top companies had hundreds of reviews. In a spot like that, you’d want to narrow your focus to a smaller area where the competition isn’t as intense.
This tool is super helpful if you’re trying to figure out where you stand with reviews or if you’re scouting for less competitive areas to grow your business.
