IL-1 "Gun" (man with gun shooting flames at a skeleton with a thermometer taped to its head. Macrophage mad in the background) : Inflammation, Bone resorption, fever, adhesion, secreted by macrophages. IL-2 "Shoe" (shoe that has a forcefield. Within the forcefield are 3 tea cups labeled helper, cytotoxic, and regulatory t cells. At the forefront is a natural killer monster guy): stimulates helper, cytotoxic, regulatory t cells, and natural killer cells. IL-3 "Tree" (Palm tree that is somehow promoting the growth of bone marrow behind it): Stimulates the growth and differentiation of bone marrow stem cells (similar to Granulocyte Macrophage-Colony Stimulating Factor) IL-4 "Door" (door says "Beg 4 Help!"): stimulates the growth of B cells, isotype class switching of IgE/IgG, differentiation of Helper T Cells. IL-5 "Bee Hive" (bee hive labeled "BAE hive"): promotes growth and differentiation of B cells, class switching to IgA, and growth/differentiation of eosinophils. IL-6 "Sticks" (Aisle 6 being blocked by sticks that are on fire. Beyond the door is a cute protein shake with a thermometer attached. Sitting on top is a mad macrophage: IL-6 promotes inflammation through vasodilation and increased capillary permeability. IL-6 promotes a fever and the cute protein shake = stimulates acute phase proteins. Macrophage makes IL-6. IL-7 "7-up can" (7-up can that has a poster attached which circles the lymphoid progenitor section in stem cell differentiation chart): IL-7 stimulating lymphoid progenitor cells IL-8 "8-balls" (8 balls everywhere that is being cleaned by an angry neutrophil janitor. Macrophage scared he will be cleaned up. Upset macrophage at the end): IL-8 recruits neutrophils to clear up infections. Macrophage secretes IL-8. IL-10 "fireman-cosplay Hen" (the fireman has a tagged beta fish): IL-10 attenuates the inflammatory response. TGF-B also attenuates the immune response by decreasing expression of MHC2, TH1, activated macrophages, and DCs. IL-12 "clock set to 12" (the clock screams "the natural killers have won" with a macrophage sitting on top): two functions of IL-12 by activating NK cells and promotes differentiation of TH1 cells. Secreted by macrophages. In the parking lot, there is an elephant raised on a tuna fish can leaking fluid and labeled "end white-haired granny cachexia! TNF-A" connected to a thermometer with a screaming macrophage: Tuna fish-elephant = TNF-A which activates Endothelium, causes WBC recruitment, maintains Granulomas, causes Cachexia in malignancy (vascular leak, fever, macrophages). Infinity Gum with a "G" on it within the parking lot with macrophages shooting lasers at a shoe: Interferon Gamma stimulates macrophages to kill phagocytosed pathogens and inhibits differentiation of Th2 cells. Induces IgG isotype switching in B cells. Interferons A,B interfere with DNA and RNA viruses. Adverse effects of interferons include flu like symptoms, neutropenia, myopathy, interferon induced myopathy, and depression.
