Let's see if I can plan dinner for a week with absolutely no coupons and only $10. I decided to try this at Aldi. The prices are reasonable and since Aldi doesn't accept coupons I wouldn't be tempted to use any. I had a ton of fun doing this. Let me know what you would have spent the $10 on.

Dry rice, dry beans. Takes longer to cook but cheaper. And a big package of chicken for even $6 can make a lot of meals plus a soup so $3 of vegetables & $1 for a starch like dry rice may have worked.

Well, when I make spaghetti I brown 1 pound of hamburger and cook up a pound of Italian Sausage and put that in the sauce. I think it could be an expensive me. Could be cheap if you omit the meat.

The package of chicken quarters, rice and two packages of frozen veggies would be a good combination if it came in under budget. That would make several meals and would definitely be satisfying meals.

A bag of dry rice is usually half the price of instant rice. If you were able to swap that, the budge would have allowed for a taco seasoning packet to flavor it. Definitely making the "struggle meal" rice and beans part of a Mexican style meal plan takes the "struggle" out of a meal of rice and beans. Yum!

Girl cabbage! You can make it so many different ways: soup, make fried cabbage, add sausage, potatoes serve with a box of cornbread and that’s a meal, a side, the works. Plus when you cut it there’s so much of it.

I buy cabbage every week and you can make layered cabbage with cooked rice, frozen or canned mixed veg, meat, and tomato sauce, cover it, and throw it in the oven for an hour and it does not cost much. You don't need meat either.

I could eat burritos all week long, but not the salisbury steak. Alternatively, you could buy a bunch of food for burrito bowls / tacos and mix them up a little. Rice, black and refried beans, chips and/ or tortillas, tomatoes/ salsa ,taco seasoning, corn, ground turkey ?, onions, lettuce or cabbage. Possibly cheese. But of course, it’s easier to think of these things when I’m not in the store and don’t know the prices. I love these videos. You and your sister are so entertaining. And you are doing us a great service during these crazy food price surges.

Best one yet. Getting better, but think along the lines of paying bulk of your budget for a VERSATILE MEAT that can be split and prepared in many different ways & only worry about sides. That way not the same menu EVERYDAY. And do not worry about serving size bc most people will eat a slight more than that. Can't wait 'til the next challenge. You could do $25 budget for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 5 days.

I'm an Aldi loyalist. Great food and good prices. But lately everything is sooooo pricey now. Eggs in Aldi in the NYC area were $3.99 for regular and $2.95 for organic (what?). I saw a dozen organic eggs in a supermarket 2 weeks ago for $7, $8 and $9 a DOZEN!!!! I took a pic to show people because it's so crazy! Fresh Buffalo wings in Aldi were $20 a package and the large fresh salmon was nearly $26 per fish!! Let's not start on the fuel costs. I believe we are largely being price gouged with some of the prices. Ridiculous!

I’m so shocked at the food prices, I thought things were going up crazy here in the UK. I live in the South-East of England and in Aldi you can currently get a 15 box of eggs for £1.29 which equates to about $1.58, these prices are madness. 😕

With ALDI, I think it's easier to spend $20-30 for ingredients that will last 2-3 weeks. It still costs about $10 per week, but it's easier to do it that way because many of their items are sold in big quantities that cost more.

I have three children but only one is home now and my son is 17 and I make sure he gets all his stuff because he has Asperger’s and he’s a picky eater so I spend most of my money for the month on him and then I budget for myself so I’ll go to the store and I’ll get a pack of 20 small tortillas La banderita and then I grab two things of sharp cheese and butter and I will live off of them that way he has what he needs ❤️

Love this video I’d say do a budget of $20-$25 for a week for those unable to afford much it’s help people however you can definitely have a budget of $15 under for a week (have watched your past videos love them) if you’re buying the food but everything else you have at home for seasonings it works out ( example do the variety box of oatmeal for breakfast and also can try making the burrito bowls for a week or a salsa and chips make your own of course for dinner and then noodles 🍜 or PBJ or a healthy sandwich for lunch )

If you have flour, you can make your own tortillas. The cabbage could have been cut into wedges and grilled. You can stuff tomatoes and you bypassed all the pasta and instant mashed potatoes. But a nice job considering the highway robbery that is food prices right now. 🙂

Maybe you can do a Lasagna. With ground Turkey a jar a spaghetti sauce and ricotta or cottage cheese which ever is cheaper. Shredded mozzarella. Or shredd your own. That would last all week. Or you could do chicken and dumplings. With a cheap family pack of chicken and canned buttermilk biscuits and salad.

The struggle 😂 I would have gotten ingredients that could be transformed more into different meals with the same ingredients as opposed to eating the SAME thing every day. For example, the zucchini would have been great chopped as a salad, made into noodles, etc. hope you do a video like this, will be hard but that’s part of the struggle 😂 Also wouldn’t get two of the same items, like two bean products or two tortilla items because that’s money could have been spent on a different taste option!

I don't think I would have gotten chips and rice to go with a burrito that is wrapped in a flour tortilla. It also had beans inside so I wouldn't have gotten the beans either. Variety is the key to a healthy diet. I would swap out the instant rice for the regular old fashioned takes a little longer to cook but is usually less expensive rice and not gotten the chips. Then I would look for ways to incorporate more veggies into the meal. The fresh zucchini is really good grilled. I agree that it is easier to shop for two to three weeks so you can add in things like seasonings.

I shop at different stores for deals. Aldi's is ok for some stuff but not for veggies and fruit and meats. Some things I get at Dollar tree. I'd get the prego sauce, eggs, pasta or a bag of flour tortillas, frozen veggies. At aldi's I'd get the frozen turkey the bread, rice and a can of beans if I had enough. With that I'd have variety for different ideas. Rice, beans and ground turkey and veggies. Ground turkey burger. With the ground turkey, add prego sauce and if you got pasta it's a meal. Egg sandwiches. Scrambled eggs on flour tortillas. Plus if you have some ingredients at home you can add it like onions. Prices depends what's better at aldi's or dollar tree or another super market.

Meatballs would have been yummy. $5.55, Spaghetti noodles, $1. Pasta sauce $1.39. 2 cans of corn or mix vegetables, .65 each. $9.24. And only using half the bag of meatballs, so food saved for next week. or see if there is any markdown bread and save some of the sauce and make meatball sandwiches. Lunch and dinner without a lot of cooking. Your videos make me start thinking of ideas.

When struggling with money, people are not able to have fancy, multi course or even healthy meals. How can this be done with basics? Think like a poor person. What about alternative suppliers like farmers markets? What about applying a plan and coupons and ibotta offers? Homemade items also help save money. Prepared foods are usually the first to go for poor people. I never forget where i come from as i could be back there tomorrow ;) 💕. Just ideas.

Burrito bowls: Bag of rice you have to cook instead of the instant...brown if possible. Jar of salsa. Couple of cans of black beans @.72/can. Or even better, a bag of dried beans if you know how/have time to cook them. And Aldi had those bags of mixed vegetables for .57 the other day...buy two. Healthier than the frozen burritos and you'd have vegetables too. I don't have the prices of Aldi things in front of me, but if you had enough $$ left over, a bag of shredded cheese would be a nice addition, but not necessary. What about the rice that you actually cook for 20 minutes? That bag of rice would be much cheaper and you could also get the zucchini too ! To stretch a meal you need gravy I think. Any kind of inexpensive meat a few veg and gravy rice or noodles. And if any money is left a salad with oil and vinegar (these are pantry staples)

I think you could have stretch the budget by using a bag of regular rice (not minute rice) and dry beans instead of canned. It would take longer to cook those items but you would have gotten more food for less money.

Fun video! I think you should've gotten the package of chicken, cabbage (fried cabbage), tomatoes, and something green. Looking forward to seeing the next video.

We eat leftover rice in the morning fried up with an egg and butter all mixed up. Also a bag of potatoes goes along way.

You would be better off with the meatballs. I have taken a bag of them and turned it into a meal of sloppy Joe’s, homemade vegetable beef soup, Chile and spaghetti meat sauce...to use in a pasta bake and stuffed bell peppers. Got to think out of the box!

Y’all should try cooking the burrito on a pan with a little oil. Get it golden brown on each side. It’s so good. But microwave it first to thaw out.

Sis you can make chicken and rice. Boil the chicken then add rice and season to taste. You can get cabbage and make fried cabbage. Make homemade cornbread ooo child. Or spaghetti. But yall did good. If you not sure about how to cook the cabbage there are some great recipes on KZbin.

I love soup for budget eating. Split peas using ham lunch meat to flavor , cheap Knorr boullion cubes, a couple of carrots and a small onion is easily under $10. You can also buy corn bread muffins or french bread for a filler and maybe have money for some butter. :-)

You 2 ladies are incredible! I loved watching you both work together and talk things out, rather than the usual solo youtube host. It was nice to hear some actual conversation and reactions about all this sudden inflation, and you were both so positive and problem solved your challenge so well. I felt like I was just watching 2 of my friends, and we're all in this together. I just discovered your channel, and I hope you make lots more videos together!

Hi loved the video of course!! I do have 2 ideas of what I would have done a bit different 1st I probably would have made chimichangas so I would have fried the burritos. My 2nd idea is I would have bought dry rice bc it's cheaper and I would have boiled the tomatoes or I would have bought a can of tomato sauce to make mexican rice.

FOR THOSE ON A BUDGET: Don’t discount vegan recipes or veggies. A bag of potatoes can go a long way. You can make wonderful 3 ingredient mashed potatoes, some french fries, or incorporate them into a soup. Homemade chili is also quite inexpensive if you leave out the meat and don’t forget that a bag of beans can really stretch!! Buying whole foods is sometimes the cheapest route vs buying the packaged produce. For example, a bag of lettuce is only a few ounces while a chopped head of lettuce will deliver 3x more.
