I currently live in Vietnam and I haven't ever seen anybody chuck the whole damn tree in there like that. You rip the leaves off and mix them through so you get some with ever bite.

I like that you said that was how YOU ate it and not how it should ALWAYS be eaten, because everyone has their own ways. I too like to put lime, bean sprouts, and basil in the pho. I use fish oil sauce instead of hoisin sauce but to each their own! Pho is for the soul and everyone's soul and preference is different :)
@StefanLopuszanski6 жыл бұрын
Another thing I've learned is to rip the Thai basil leaves which releases more of their flavor. Pho is like a sweet lovers embrace on a cold night. It warms the soul.

@TopTum6 жыл бұрын
Yup, its the same concept as cilantro, you have to break in smaller pieces so it doesn't get stuck in your throat, also you want to cook down the bean sprouts properly. Also don't put the hosin or sriracha into the bowl directly, grab a side sauce bowl and just bite your meat with each spoonful bite..enjoy yall
@StefanLopuszanski6 жыл бұрын
That isn't the reason why you break it into smaller pieces. The idea is to release the flavor that is inside the leaves, not so you don't choke. I like putting hoisin and sriracha into my bowl directly. But I also like having some on the side to dip. Also, I love dipping my BBQ pork Bahn Mi into it. Just thinking about that makes me salivate.

I lived on pho when i travelled around Vietnam, honestly nothing beats it. It's my favourite dish of all time! But i've never tasted a broth as good as i did while i was in Vietnam!

msg exists in natural ingredients too, which gives them the savory, umami taste: kombu, cheese, tomato, salmon... and it is treated the same by the body as artificial msg. Honestly these ingredients were the reason that a Japanese discovered msg

I always just get Pho Tai (just rare beef) with bean sprouts, 2 parts hoison 1 part siracha (except I put it into the broth), a little lime juice and just eat it with a fork. Southern-style pho (what you'll find in America) is customizable by nature. It can be daunting at first, but just do what works for you. There really isn't a "pro" way to eat it, just a personal way.

Elizabeth Travels but it kills the favor of the soup. Best way is this way of eatting pho. Give it a try. I don't like lime on my broth though. I thinking if changes the favor of the broth.
@ElizabethTravelsNow6 жыл бұрын
I've been eating it "pure" for years, but then I started adding sauces to it and I like it better that way. And lime is really a must for me. I'll always have a couple spoons of the untouched broth, and then pimp it with all the lime, herbs and sauces.
